Check Out Soren Rodriguez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Soren Rodriguez.

Hi Soren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi! My name is Soren Rodriguez and currently I am a freelance director for short film, music videos, visuals, and also event curation. I model and style clients as well, but creative direction just comes naturally to me. It is the perfect mix of a workaholic and creative! It is the best Balance between a businessman and an artist in my opinion. I was born and raised in Washington DC and the surrounding part of the DMV ( DC, Maryland, Virginia). I started doing. modeling gigs and visiting NYC every other week just for more experiences and attempts to build my network. Then I moved to New York full time in 2023. I have been involved in music and art my whole life, while also being surrounded by humbling experiences and a lot of business life + political information from my Father. I never really knew my Mother, she wasn’t there. Since I could stand, I would stand on the couch performing pop songs while Abuela recorded, all out of her small apartment in the DC area. My cousin Maya is a huge inspiration to me just throughout their work displayed around my Tia’s house. My other cousin Xochi is a gifted poet + writer and always pushes me to do better with her work ( even if she thinks I don’t read it lol ). But my main inspiration and reason for why I do what I do is my experiences. Specifically my negative ones. 30 days after i turned 8 years old there was a custody dispute in my family, and I ended up going into foster care until I was of legal age to emancipate. My time in Foster Care was ultimately a negative experience, although it shaped who I am today. I emancipated at 17 and a half years old, and moved to nyc. after several bumps in the road, I am where I want to be, and nothing can stop it!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ultimately, no it has not been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. In the tiume i spent with my family they instilled the best mentality that i stick with to this day. Everyone goes through negativity and obstacles. There are people who take the worst things that have happened to them and they let it change them, and shape them into someone who would make other people feel that same pain, since they felt no one helped them through it. Although there are also people who take those negative experiences and say “I don’t want anyone else to feel this pain, I wont pass this on because there is value in the lesson that I could receive from analyzing this situation, and spreading this negativity will not change anything for the better”. I like to think I fall into the latter option. I know this world is in a lot of pain, and people need help, some things I cannot control, but I can control what i take out of my experiences and then give to the world. I would rather take those experiences and let it change me into a better person, for positivities sake.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a director, model, and stylist!I love what I do, I love the expression I get from each one of my projects, but more so it helps to be the bridge between my client and THEIR expression! That is always my top priority. I feel like my standards of excellency set me apart from other young creatives. I love my generation, and i am eager too see what becomes of the world once we take charge, although I do feel the concept of being professional has been lost. I enforce my professionalism in every project I do, and even mix it in with my connection skills. I love meeting new clientele, and hearing all the ideas and then bring able to turn that into a production, and ultimately a reality! I started off commercial modeling for about 2 years until I decided to deep dive into the direction aspect. I still model! I just know where my heart lies.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
To be completely honest, in the most non selfish way possible. The younger version of myself deserves all the credit. That little boy overcame so much, emancipated himself at 17 years old and was on his own even before that. Constantly in a survival ‘fight or flight’ mentality. Overcoming the system and STILL making something of myself with it also being a passion, is a privilege. But I owe it all to the little boy who persevered and pushed through and Still stayed genuine no matter what.
