Check Out Sabrina Hyman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Hyman

Hi Sabrina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My exposure to the world of events and hospitality began with my mom. She raised me as a single mom and often was taking additional weekend jobs in catering or even as a performer (she was a professional swing dancer) to help support me and my own love of dance. And growing up in the age of Pinterest I spent my high school days building out mood boards and was always excited to plan the next school dance or birthday party. However, seeing how my mom struggled financially, I did not see pursuing events as a “smart” career path and took the opposite route studying for a stable corporate job and found myself in real estate development. After nearly a decade in the field and going back to school for my Masters degree, I had put my all into climbing the corporate ladder but felt it did not align with what I want to be giving back. In planning my own wedding and now building my family, I had to take a deeper examination of what I wanted to create. Realizing that my mom did not make these sacrifices so that I would end up in a career that didn’t give me purpose or make me happy, I decided to take the leap and start my own event planning business.

Officially in 2025, I launched Sol Soiree – a wedding and social event planning company. “Sol” meaning sun, and a childhood nickname, is significant for me because in this business I feel as though I am shining my light by doing what I love. At Sol Soiree, I am focused on the environment and inclusivity. My career actually began in environmental planning for real estate developments and has always been at the core of what I do. I believe in inclusivity of all types of people and want everyone that works with me to feel worthy of their celebration. Further, beginning this business in the South Bay is significant because it is where my grandparents bought their first home, both immigrants to the US in the 1960s. Today, although I am just getting started I’ve never felt more sure of where I am suppose to be.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all! I have still been working a 9-5 so I spend every evening and weekends on building the business. The initial hurdle being finding time for regular life, but needing to say yes to every potential client and meeting. This is a song I hear echoed across by other business owners. For me, I had to take a pause late in 2024 to edit my life to create space for this new endeavor – physically and mentally. I spent weekends fully clearing out my home of items, clothes, or things that no longer served this new phase of my life. I also had to look at friendships, activities, and lifestyle choices that aligned or did not align. This part might have been the hardest of all, but I found it was necessary.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an event planner, specializing in weddings and social events. For weddings, I provide full planning services, which includes design, management, and on-site coordination. I also provide coordination services for 90-days and 30-days prior to your wedding day. This provides couples with some more flexibility with their budget and the level of service they need. For social events, I provide design and planning services for parties, showers, corporate events, and more!

What sets me apart is my eco-focus – I look for ways to promote sustainability in events, such as through the selection of location and any materials being used.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The industry of events has seen such a shift with the rise of social media. In the next few years, we are going to continue to see an increase in guest experience options – you see this with all the luxury brands and their coffee shops, or wellness lounges. People want these types of experiences and that will not go away. Some big shifts I am seeing now is all around content and having a content creator or having an old style film photographer capture your day. I also think that AI is going to impact how we plan, as things become more automated – hopefully that helps my job become smoother!
