Today we’d like to introduce you to Rynika Murray
Hi Rynika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My brain has always been abuzz with creativity and artistic abilities. I knew there was no room for me at a traditional desk job, so I desired to do something unconventional that scratched that uniquely creative itch in my brain. I took a few photography classes, self taught video editing, and researched marketing strategies and tactics in my free time. I fell in love with the digital world of marketing and realized I especially enjoyed the up-and-coming trend of content creation.
Ever since then, I have been pouring my heart and soul into the craft, learning all that I can so that I am able to make the most alluring and authentic videos for brands and businesses. I work with brands creating User Generated Content (UGC) or on occasion, sponsored posts that provide them visibility and brand awareness. I have been blessed to be able to work with several dream brands I never thought I’d get to partner with and I am constantly in awe of the opportunities that flood my inbox.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been plagued with tears, mental breakdowns, and excited screams that have me dancing around the room. To fight the vanity metrics in the industry is a daily challenge. To not be defined by numbers, analytics, and insights. Often, it feels like your worth is determined by your numerical success instead of your creative abilities. But amidst the challenges and struggles, I know that I pour my heart and soul into what I do, and I have the confidence to continue without batting an eye about the futile opinions of others. I know in my heart I was made to do this, and I wake up every day excited to continue to work hard at this dream that has captivated my heart.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My daily drive is to create photo and video content for brands and businesses that desire a stronger digital presence. I take an aesthetic approach and carefully craft my work with the utmost attention to detail. With my background in graphic design, I have a keen eye for aesthetics and use that to my advantage to make appealing and compelling photo and video work that draws in the viewer amidst the scroll. The thing I am most proud of is simply the creativity the God has blessed me with. I would not be able to do what I do without such a gift.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was always thinking outside of the box. I was always a hustler thriving off of entrepreneurial endeavors. I believe my first business was selling animal-shaped pencil toppers in elementary school. I bought them in bulk online and would sell them individually to my 6th-grade classmates. My second business was more hands-on as I crafted and sold duct-tape wallets, flower pencils, and book covers to my jr.high peers in 8th grade (duct tape was all the rage back then). From there I tried my hand at re-selling via Poshmark through high school and by college I had started my own freelance graphic design business. From age 18 and onward, I was pretty consistently working 2-3 jobs at all times for a duration of about 6 years. All the while, I leaned towards creative endeavors that lit up the right side of my brain and brought my soul to life. I never was good at school or left-brained academia, but if you hand me the right project, my work ethic will scare you. I also grew up pursuing cheerleading, dance, and fitness instructing, which led me to a fun life full of movement, rhythm, and music. Though I don’t have the time and space to keep up with those passions, I have future business plans that may involve combining all these passions into one unique fitness experience, so keep an eye out!
