Check Out Rylie Vanderhoff’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rylie Vanderhoff

Hi Rylie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am from Boise, ID, but my family is from LA, so I grew up visiting all the time and it became such a second home to me. I knew by the age of 5 I wanted the city to be my forever home. I moved to Orange County after high school to pursue a career in the Film & Entertainment industry, but while on my last semester, we ended up facing a world-altering pandemic. Unsure of what the future held for me at that point lead me to visiting a friend for a weekend in LA. Little did I know, after that weekend I would have found an apartment and be spontaneously moving to the city within weeks.

Once I arrived to the city, I got settled and found a job at Equinox West Hollywood’s front desk. Overtime, I made really great new friends and had established great relationships with our clientele and even received a promotion to Spa Desk Manager. As I spent my time at the spa of Equinox West Hollywood, I fell completely in love with the industry and after one product training, I knew this was something I wanted to make a career out of. I spoke with my then manager and mentor, Jen Harvey, and she was the one who really pushed me into Esthetic school. I attended Neihule Academy of Beauty and graduated with many certifications as well as my California state licensing in Esthetics.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would definitely be lying if I said everything was smooth sailing since moving to LA, but I’ve learned those are the moments that give you your strength and make you grow in ways you would never imagine. You always hear about the craziness that can happen in LA, but you never think you are going to be the victim until you are.

I have experienced friends that aren’t genuine who will try to exploit you the first chance they get for their own gain; but the craziest road block I had to deal with was a stalker of 2 years. This person did everything in their power to try to make me feel inferior like showing up to my workplace, following me to my gym, and even online harassment with social media and fake yelp reviews for my business. They went as far as to write to my workplace an email threatening to sue over false accusations and defamation. Was I worried? No, I just put my best foot forward and kept moving on with my life which is all you really can do. I learned a lot from this experience such as always protect your peace, sometimes the best reaction to a situation is no reaction and letting the chips fall where they may. I feel sorry at the end of the day, for this person was clearly not in their right mind and personally, it was a real call to acknowledging the importance of mental health and how it effects everyone differently, but getting people the help they need is priority number one.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician at Equinox West Hollywood who specializes in custom facial treatments that are designed to help each client achieve their personal skincare goals. I have had extensive training in specifically darker skin tone treatments. My main treatments include Hydrafacials, microdermabrasion, cryo-thermal body and face contouring.

I am mostly known for my relaxing facial massage movements that detox and drain your face of any toxins and built-up lymph, however, recently my lash lift and brow shaping services have been gaining the most traction this fall season.

What makes me most proud of the work I do is knowing that I get to be the vessel of relaxation that helps people pause for a moment, take in life, breathing it all in, and leave my treatment room feeling like the weight of the world was lifted off their shoulders. The most rewarding moments I have experienced has been getting my male clientele well educated in skincare and seeing them so excited over their glowing skin as they leave the treatment room.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
The biggest shock factor people seem to have with me is finding out that I was not born and raised in Los Angeles (huge compliment by the way) and that I am actually from the small city of Meridian, Idaho. I also find people constantly being stunned by the fact that I am only 24 years old, not sure what that’s about, but it seems to surprise people.
