Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan West.
Ryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always tell people I’m in my third life career-wise. I started off getting my business degree and working in finance while concurrently producing music and Dj’ing a radio show in Vancouver, where I’m from. However, there was always something inside of me, a burning desire if you will, that told me there was a different direction for me. Eventually, I found myself in photography, which came after a breakup, so my focus was undivided to say the least. From there, it just kept growing both my desire and my photo opportunities, so I made the leap and jumped into it full-time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Initially, it was a smooth road. But the more you accomplish the more you want to get to the next level which of course means bigger goals that are harder to obtain. So after the initial success, it was ups and downs which are to be expected, but overall the trend is up, which is great.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I focus on high-end photography mostly in the fashion and celebrity realms. But I also love to shoot beauty, musicians and advertising for brands. I enjoy the challenge to not only meet but exceed the client’s expectations. I’m proud of leaving the comfort of the 9-5 and being successful in reaching my goal of making a living full time from my creative endeavors. One of the things that clients love about me is I have a team and we offer white glove service. We don’t leave any room for error while being professional but fun to work with!
Any big plans?
The plans for the future are to continue focusing on health, wealth and love. I’ve learned the importance of being mindful about one’s health. For me, it’s a balance… I like to enjoy some of the best food and drink that the world has to offer, but also try to maintain a healthy body and mind. The wealth focus is of course for living expenses but also for retirement and to pass down to my kid(s) one day. And the love focus is being committed to and focused on my wife who is the backbone of our family.
