Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxana Izquieta.
Hi Roxana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story started in Brooklyn, New York in 1976. I was born to parents from Ecuador who met in New York and we moved to LA when I was six. Living in Los Angeles has been a big part of my creative journey. Los Angeles welcomes all walks of life and has a major cultural ecosystem that includes hundreds of nonprofit arts organizations. There is inspiration everywhere. I love art and design and started abstract painting in 2016. I decided to start my small business in 2019 and it’s grown to an eclectic atelier of my many creative outlets.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, it has not been a smooth road, but without those struggles, I would not have become who I am today. My passion has been made more rewarding, knowing I have been able to work through any adversity thrown my way. I also work with children with special needs, which comes with its own struggles but in the end, like my art is extremely rewarding.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart from others is I am an ever-changing artist. I work with wax for candle making, crystals and wire to make jewelry as well as acrylic paint for abstract art. When I started with abstract art, it fueled my passion to create even more and expand my artistic style. I incorporated crystal jewelry which has been described by clients as, enchanting, elegant as well as unique. Which in turn came about my candles and not just any candles. Candles that are as expressive as my jewelry. My candles are very personal for the client, they are an expression of their artistic nature. My art is ever-changing and as unique as myself and the client who buys it.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
In my opinion, success is measured differently for everyone. Success for me would be living a fulfilling and meaningful life. My art brings me joy and gratification, knowing I am creating someone meaningful and special for my clients. Knowing I have made something that makes my clients happy and brings them joy is a measure of success that no money can buy and also brings about a feeling of positivity within myself.
