Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Pernell
Hi Ron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my journey doing hair at an early age. Doing the women of my family hair before church. It then lead me in to the love of beauty .. A child of the 60s glam and my own family , Models and Movies. In my teens my wall in my bedroom was wallpaper with covered of magazines. Ebony, Vogue , GQ, and many more . My family supported me on this journey and feed me the freedom.
In my 20s N.Y called me to test the water. In that I was blessed to be welcome with open arms in New York creative family . From that I was able to asst on Photoshoots. And fashion shows . In between that I had privet clients that was model and actors that I groom and taken care of there hair needs. My ability of doing work on any nationality hair open that door wider .
Traveling to Europe working during fashion week and photos . My love for Paris and the wonder of its beauty made me fervor it as my second mother land . Plus… the fashion world in Paris open its arms to me like N.Y did. Being influenced by some of the top salons in Paris like Christophe Robin and Leonor greyl brought my interest in hair color and hair care to the focus and with my DNA of styling hair
After N.Y I moved to Calif . San Francisco and Los Angeles . San Francisco is where I own a bespoke salon and L.A I work at special gem salon called Work Shop Salon L.A on Beverly Blvd . I share my time between both places. Since many of the models I have worked with in New York at the beginning of career are now my clients in L.A. San Francisco is me the tech who are on the cutting edge of the world .
People always ask me what I’m known for . My answer is beauty for women and Men and Genders .
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It doesn’t matter if there’s struggles are the road smooth. It’s learning in the process. Staying true to who you are. The path for me in the beauty industry came easy and natural . I grown up in a family that has always been stylist from head to toe. I had found some of the salons and fashion houses in the 80s was giving so many young creative people the opportunity to express them self . So much freedom !
I find now days is totally different. People use social media for inspiration! They want to be famous so fast. They don’t asst on projects like we did back then . Plus… we had magazines glossy pages and supermodels . Since it’s going towards more social media. I’m following people in the beauty industry and new designers from all over world. That’s inspiring to see .
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for my cutting , styling hair . People always say they love how I can bring out the best in them and make them feel sexy. Thats for women, Men and Genders . I’ve been blessed to be expose, worked with some of the best beauty industry people . first started trained as a hair cutter and stylist . After a few years of that . It lead me to get trained in hair color . Being fully educated in both helps me to achieve and give my clients their needs .
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Health , family and friends is the bases of who I am . But… traveling to other places and exposing my self to different cultures helps the creativity in me and feeds my soul . It allows me to express that in my work . Like they say . Eyes are the channel to the soul and heart
