Today we’d like to introduce you to Rio Igarashi
Hi Rio, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Rio Igarashi as known as Rio Japan. I’m originally from Otaru city, Hokkaido Japan. I came to Los Angeles in 2015 to chase my dream to be a dancer. I trained with teachers /choreographers for 4 years and I finally signed with a dance agency in 2019. When my dance career was about to start, pandemic happened and I lost my hope. I was thinking to go back home.
March 2020 I bought a sewing machine just for fun. During the lockdown, I watched YouTube to learn how to sew and started making a mask and sold it. 3 years after, I started work as a tailor/ costume designer with production company / brands and artists.
That’s how I got to where I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had to figure out all by myself. Sewing was my first job in the US and I didnt know anything about this industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a designer/celebrity tailor/stylist
I do tailor for celebrities, shows, music video/ commercial. I also do custom as well

Each gigs are different. Never same. Sometimes it gets crazy. I always figure out somehow.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My mom was always busy with work and she was usually off every Wednesday. After school, my mom took me to arcade to let me play whatever I want. My favorite was Dance Dance Revolution. She was just sitting and watching. We got there around 5 and left around 8 til they close. Every Wednesday she took me to arcade and shopping
