Check Out Richon Martena’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richon Martena.

Hi Richon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was a new mother with purpose but no passion. One day a photographer reached out to me for a shoot and I agreed not really thinking much of it. During the shoot, I felt something click and after seeing the raw images, a fire was lit inside of me. It was at that moment in 2016, I knew what my passion was. I’ve made a name for myself and gained a following from a lot of my own creative modeling work. That is what continues to set me apart and what’s gotten me to this interview today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. During my journey, I’ve had a problem with not fitting the industry standard. I do not have the height or slim build so I feel like I’ve had to work twice as hard to be seen or considered a serious model in the industry. I beat myself up in the beginning, I felt like other women had it easier. Through my own personal self-love journey I’ve learned to let those sentiments go and stand in my own unique power. What’s for me is for me and my path is to be forged on my own accord and not the industries.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional model and I specialize in beauty shoots and really vibrant/creative editorial shoots. I am most proud of the fact that my ideas are my own and I’ve gained attention from the likes of Tyra Banks for them. That was a huge co-sign for a freelance model such as myself.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk I continuously take is pushing myself in the name of my art. Past my own boundaries, letting my creativity run free. Not allowing myself to be boxed in or anyone else do the same.
