Check Out Richard Zamudio’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Zamudio

Hi Richard, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love and interest for photography. As a kid, I always wanted a camera and it was not until I was older that I purchased my first DSLR Camera, a Canon T3i in 2011. Initially, my photography journey started off as a hobby but grew over time into something bigger. Every night, I would watch videos on YouTube and learn about camera settings, lighting, compositions and used what I had learned on the photos that I would take. Over time, my skills got better that I started to get approached about photographing events, weddings and doing portraits. It was not until I entered my photographs into a local fair and won several 1st place photographs that I realized that I did have a good skill and talent for photography.
Unfortunately, COVID hit in 2020 and I was unable to expand on my photography and was not able to start my photography business. Over the next several years, I would still photograph events but due to a lack of a work-life balance, I struggled to grow and devote enough time to my photography. Eventually, at the start of 2024, I started my photography business (Reframed Photography) and have devoted myself full time into making photography my career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not always been smooth but I think that is common for anyone starting a business. As I am growing my photography business, the biggest struggle is establishing myself as a credible photographer in a field that can at times be saturated. With the changes to social media, in particular with the algorithm with Instagram changing, it has been a struggle to gain followers, build a brand, and network with other photographers and creators. As much as these challenges/struggles can be discouraging, it is important to maintain a positive outlook and continue to promote, market, and network as much as possible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Freelance Photographer. I enjoy photographing a wide variety of things but my favorite thing to photograph is nature and landscapes as that is the root of where my passion for photography started. As I have grown as a photographer, I have branched into different forms of photography such as, weddings, portraits, and photojournalism which I enjoy photographing. I enjoy capturing special moments and seeing the joy that my clients get whenever they see the photos that I capture.
What I am most proud of is taking my passion and hobby for photography and growing it into a business and allowing me the opportunity to share my art that I create through my camera with others.
I don’t think there is anything that sets me apart from others. I am a huge advocate for passing what I know and have learned forward. I am where I am because of others and their willingness to help me, guide me and teach me along this journey. If a photographer approaches me for advice, I never shy away or never expect anything in return. To mentor another artist, only helps to strengthen the photography community.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I really enjoy watching YouTube Videos from other creators. Peter Mckinnon and Evan Ranft are two content creators who have helped me learn and grow as a photographer.
I have a huge passion at looking at other photographers work. I am always looking at photography books to find inspiration and motivation. A couple of Photography books that are a huge inspiration to me are, “The Suffering of Light” by Alex Webb and “Modern Color” by Fred Herzog.
