Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Martinez.
Hi Raul, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began as an imaginative kid flipping the pages of our favorite comic book heroes. As a fan of graphic novels, I began to sketch my own characters, and it was around this time that I also got my first taste of the world of graffiti. I strongly believe that these two elements play an important part of my art and style till this very day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the road that my art has taken is unique in its own way. I struggled in college, as my instructors wanted me to paint like the greats, and although I truly love and respect them for their work, I’ve always made efforts to be different, assuring to leave my signature in everything I do.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My artwork is a symbol of Mother Nature. Where it came from, where it is, and what it can be. I’m a romantic dreamer, I want to heal the damages the human race has caused. My flowers are evolutionary abstract, and the woman I paint are a representation of nature and the state it’s in. Every action has a direct effect and change is not always good, my pieces are a look at what’s not perfectly fine.
How do you define success?
Success to me is far from monetary. I think one is successful when he/she finds peace in what’s being done. If I’m passionate in what I do if every brush stroke has emotion and meaning. Happiness and comfort play an important role in my success, an artist’s biggest critic tend to be themselves, success to me is being satisfied in what I’ve accomplished.
