Check Out Rachel Lee Perez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Lee Perez.

Rachel Lee Perez

Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the founder and co-host of the Hashtag History podcast, where we share about History’s greatest stories of controversy, conspiracy, and corruption.

The podcast began in 2019 from a mutual love between myself and my friend Leah for History. I have always been passionate about making History attainable and exciting by delivering the information in a way that interests even self-proclaimed “History Haters”.

Since beginning the podcast in 2019, we have released more than one hundred episodes, received more than 165,000 downloads, reached more than one hundred countries, and made countless friends worldwide.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The greatest struggle with being an independent podcaster is carving out the time to work on this passion project. Between working a full-time job, a part-time job, serving as a board member, and recently becoming a mom to twin daughters, it can be difficult to find the time to dedicate to the podcast.

What I regularly remind myself is that this podcast is my passion project and it’s only fun so long as I continue to see it as a passion project. Once it begins to feel like a burden or a job, it is no longer fun, and I have lost my vision and dreams for the podcast.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the way we are able to deliver information about Historical people and events in an informative yet entertaining way. Accuracy in our content is extremely important to me, but regardless of how informative we are, we will never gain and retain listeners if they do not also find us entertaining and engaging. I believe what sets our podcast apart from other History podcasts is that we have successfully found that balance between informative and entertaining.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always been a very self-motivated, ambitious person. I always bite off a little more than the average person with loads of creative projects always swirling around in my head.

I have always been interested in History which is why I chose to study it in college as my major. Since I work in the legal field, I have not oftentimes had the opportunity to use my History degree in the workplace. This is where the podcast came in; it provided me with an opportunity to engage my passion and desire for sharing History with others in an informative and entertaining way.

I have also always been interested in research and writing which has led me to publish two novels.
