Check Out Othelia Joy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Othelia Joy.

Hi Othelia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a media correspondent, founder of The Glow Report Media and co-host of Toast Africa. Media has been a passion of mine and I have grown to love this space. I find joy in connecting and interacting with individuals from across the globe. As a Liberian native currently based in Los Angeles, CA, I have gained the reputation of being an energetic and engaging host through my first show called The Othelia JOY Show. Through this show, I became a force to be reckoned with when it comes to entertaining and being memorable – my charming personality has afforded me hosting gigs for fashion shows, pageants, community events, talent shows, weddings, and the list goes on. I am also a former beauty queen of prestigious titles such as Miss Black Sacramento 2014, Miss Metro Sacramento 2015, Miss Africa Bay Area 2017, etc.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been the easiest road, but through hard work and dedication, I have persevered.

As an immigrant from a third-world country, I found it hard to assimilate into the American culture. I was teased for my thick accent and often shy away from speaking in front of a large crowd. To see my struggle become my greatest gift is a blessing in which I give all the Glory to God. He literally turned my shortcoming into a passion.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Aside from Media, I work as a Healthcare Recruiter and currently working towards my Doctorate in Healthcare Administration.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Be flexible and willing to pivot wherever you see fit. Life is so unpredictable!
