Check Out Noy Marom’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Noy Marom.

Hi Noy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved acting and creating and from a very young age, knew that I would want to pursue the path of a full artistic life. I was born and raised in Israel and moved to New York in 2014 to pursue acting and a while after arriving in NYC began my training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. It was a wonderful and challenging experience that really shaped my voice as an artist.

After the intensive period of training, I was cast in the leading role in one of the final studio productions, in the role of Sara in the play “God of Vengeance”. It was a beautiful experience. I had lots of lines to memorize as part of this challenging role and it was extremely stressful having so much responsibility back then, but it thought me so much about the artistic process and it was a beautiful thing having them believe in me and in my craft like that back then.

After graduating, fresh out of acting school, while taking part in many on-screen and theater projects, I decided to control my own artistic narrative and co-created Virago Ensemble along with a group of international female artists who attended Adler with me. The theater group has issued a number of successful productions in NYC including performances of the plays: “Kiss that Frog” and “Last Summer at Bluefish Cove”. Virago Ensemble is an International all-female theater company striving to empower women’s voices by sharing old and new works created by female-identifying writers.

While being active through Virago Ensemble, I’ve been taking part in many different projects and productions including: Theater and Film Productions, video projects, commercials, modeling photoshoots and more.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I feel that I have been very privileged during my journey as an actor. It is definitely a challenging path to walk through, but I have been fortunate enough to work with some amazing creatives while working on wonderful and versatile productions. The beginning of the Covid period was definitely a very challenging moment of uncertainty. Apart from the obvious challenges we’ve all experienced due the pandemic as a society, I was really concerned about my artistic future after working so hard to establish myself as an artist and as a part of the community. I think what really helped me was when I started writing- I really found a creative outlet through that and it gave me much comfort and a sense of purpose during a very challenging time. It feels as though as things are really falling into place again and it feels so wonderful to be acting and creating once again in my artistic base in NYC.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would describe myself as a passionate storyteller. I am first and foremost an actor. I love taking on different characters and giving them life while telling raw stories that people can relate and connect with. I am mainly passionate about portraying strong yet vulnerable female characters. That is also the main goal of the Virago Ensemble and we are very driven to keep going with that mission and to find more interesting stories to tell. We recently produced and performed a stage reading of the wonderful Spanish play “Yerma” (I was playing the wonderful role of Maria- a young pregnant woman adjusting to her new reality). The workshop production took place at the Vino theater in Brooklyn and it was a beautiful experience. I am also scheduled to begin rehearsals for another exciting production called “LimboLand” that I have also helped writing. It is about the post-pandemic world and the journey of living an artistic life. I am also very excited about other exciting things on the horizon- a leading role in an upcoming feature film and taking part in a number of productions with IAP- The Israeli artist’s projects including the Israeli play “Best Friends”.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by being able to do what you love every day and to keep going even when things get hard. While pursuing and living an artistic life one has to surrender to the ups and downs that are inevitable and to just try to enjoy the ride. It’s a part of it all and at the end of the day, that’s what makes the moments of success that much sweeter. I define success by loving what you do and feeling in sync with your wants and dreams.
