Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Shouse.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Indiana; I started shooting videos when I was very young, then moved to photography. I shot weddings for a few years. Eventually moved to LA with 3 of my best friends. 4 of us in a 2 bedroom in Hollywood. I assisted a successful La fashion photographer and he mentored me until I began shooting my own clients and jobs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardest thing is constantly evolving. In this industry, there is no maintenance; you’re either evolving or being left behind.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a commercial / lifestyle fashion photographer based in Los Angeles. I try to curate a very fun vibe on set and capture my subjects and brands in the most natural way possible.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My biggest mentor from the beginning was Jared Thomas Kocka. We remain great friends to this day and he’s still the guy I go to for advice all the time.
Also, when I left Hollywood, I moved into a building with Jack Strutz and Ben Smith. They had a huge hand on my early photo career as well.
