Check Out Marques Harris’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marques Harris

Marques, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
How I got started was I wanted to try something new and I thought maybe I can give photography a try. I bought my first camera in spring of 2018. I started off taking landscape photos, but then taking pictures of people intrigued me fast forward I went to a photo walk networking event later that spring and that was my start.

I continued to network from that point to build my skills and confidence as a photographer. Along this journey I got a mentor. It was the turning point of my photography career. Getting a mentor not only help me on the creative side but also on the business of photography as well. To this day I still work along side my mentor.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely faced some struggles along the way, such as finding a community of photographers to learn from despite not having that problem now I believe it hindered my progress as a photographer. I also lacked confidence due to not having that sense of community and not sure what direction I was heading in. Another struggle I faced was this false sense of reality that I would be booked and busy based off of talent.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer and visual storyteller. I specialize in capturing the essence of individually through striking portraits that tell a story. My work blends creativity and professionalism, offering a range of styles – from bold editorials to intimate compositions. Whether working with aspiring models, professionals, or individuals celebrating their unique journeys, I focus on highlighting confidence and authenticty in every shot.

What makes me stand out is my versatility. We’re told to niche down which essentially boxes us in.

I’m most proud of that I didn’t give up especially in the early stages where I didn’t know how to navigate the photography industry.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice I give to anyone starting out now today, find a mentor take photography classes and continue to network regardless of skill level. It’s important to build those relationships because that’s what people will remember. My next piece of advice as shoot as much as you can and shoot outside of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid to fail or take bad photos because it’s apart of the process of learning. Shoot everything, from weddings to birthdays and I can’t stress enough network!
