Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Rangel.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I pursued filmmaking because it had always been my childhood dream. From a young age, I was captivated by the experience of watching movies on the big screen, and as I grew up, that dream of becoming a film director never faded. Despite initially pursuing a degree in Business Engineering and running a successful alpaca clothing brand, I couldn’t ignore my true passion for storytelling through film.
I made the courageous decision to leave my job and find a way to enter the film industry. I started my journey by working as an executive production assistant at Peru’s largest film studio, Señor Z, gaining valuable experience in the world of filmmaking. Later, I decided to pursue a Master of Fine Arts in Film Production from Full Sail University, where I could further hone my filmmaking skills.
Currently, I’m part of the of Deisi Del Toro Productions, under the direction of owner Deisi Del Toro, a relative of famous film director Guillermo Del Toro. As a certified Davinci Resolve colorist, I serve currently as supervising editor and colorist on two feature films, “Melt On This” and “Melt On This Music”. The former is now available on Amazon Prime Video and several other platforms. The latter is on its festival run-in search of distribution. In addition, I take on the role of day-to-day production manager at the studio. I also work as a freelance editor and colorist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My deep love for being a part of the creation of stories and characters, as well as the potential for films to deeply impact and change individuals and society, motivated me to follow my dream of becoming a director.
My journey led me to become a director and explore the post-production side as an editor and colorist. I believe that dedication, sacrifice, and the pursuit of one’s dreams are essential to achieving success in any artistic or creative career. My passion for storytelling drove my career shift from business to filmmaking through film and my desire to fulfill a childhood dream. As you can tell it was not easy, I even quit my job in a highly known company from Peru to pursuit this dream of mine. And now it’s a reality.
I continue to be open to new ideas, cultures, people, arts, and experiences. As a filmmaker, my goal is to create films that deeply impact and inspire audiences while reflecting human society’s diverse and complex nature.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a videographer, editor, and colorist. I worked on more than thirty short films, one tv show, two music videos, two lyric videos, two feature films and a great deal more of projects on the way.
I’m most proud of supervising the postproduction of two feature films: Melt On This and Melt On This Music. Also, of producing and directing two music videos.
I believe my passion, dedication, and attention to detail sets me apart from others.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My passion and dedication.
