Check Out Marc D’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc D.

Hi Marc, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well I went to film school a million years ago, became a commercial editor and small time actor, and then did a midlife career change and became a nurse. So yeah, the usual story. I am a psychiatric nurse, Ive been one for about 7 years, and it can be tough at times, but I can’t deny it’s rewarding at times. It’s quite intense and strangely moving, because you often see someone at the lowest point in their lives, and you do what you can to help them get through it. I mean don’t get me wrong editing commercials and acting was fun, and if I would have been more successful at it, I probably would have even stayed in the business. But, saying all that, I’m glad it happened. Creative wise, I started a podcast called You Are My Density a couple of years ago. The name of the podcast is a tweak on the Back to the Future scene where Crispin Glover mixes up “destiny” for “density”. It’s a very weird, very personal podcast, and it’s also very unpopular. You knew all those verys in a row were leading somewhere bad, didn’t you? But it’s a Los Angeles obsessed podcast, with a lot of talk of movies, personal stories, cemeteries and music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Just having to do a career change in my mid-fourties was a challenge. I had been working on commercials, and all of a sudden I’m in anatomy class looking at a cadaver. It’s like “mork calling orson, come in orson”. So yeah, it’s been a rocky road but I guess that’s what’s given me such over the top charisma.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Pretty much my podcast, I just described it a bit on the previous page. I also like playing guitar and coming up with minute long hopefully catchy songs, in a guided by voices meets mel torme style

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Since my dad is no longer around, my favorite memory is any memory with me and him and my mom all together
