Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Rozell.

Luke Rozell

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started tattooing in college between semesters while working at a summer camp. It began as little stick and poke tattoos among my friends, but it quickly turned into a passion that ended up shaping my academic career and eventually becoming my profession. I graduated NYU in 2018 with a concentration in the sociological implications of Western tattooing, and I’ve been throwing myself into the art form ever since. Over the past seven years, I’ve worked with a wide variety of artists in studios across the country. I decided to make the move to LA early this year to work with Nico Bassill at Best Wishes LA in Atwater Village.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has had many twists, turns and rough patches for sure! Tattooing is a challenging lifestyle that offers very few guarantees. I’ve worked in bedrooms cramped basements and had my entire practice washed out in a leaky studio! COVID-19 was another time that felt quite existential, not only for myself but for all tattooers. Tattooing is an intimate practice that requires close contact with a lot of strangers, and there was a time when it felt like that kind of work may never recover.

Despite these challenges, tattooing has always taken care of me. As a good friend of mine often tells me, tattooing is a practice in which you get out what you put in. While there may be ups and downs, hard work is almost always going to see results.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a tattoo artist specializing in fineline black and grey tattoos. I am known for creating intricate and detailed imagery that is designed to withstand the test of time.

I am most proud of the work I do with my colleagues to create a practice that provides a welcoming environment for anyone to experience tattooing. Our goal is to offer our clients safety and comfort along with the technical ability to guarantee that they leave our studio feeling cared for, included and informed in the world of tattooing.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Please don’t be shy to reach out with any and all questions you may have regarding tattoos! I am always happy to share the knowledge I have and guide you in the best direction for your next piece.
