Check Out Luisa Frias’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luisa Frias.

Luisa Frias

Hi Luisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love of movement began as a child when I took my first Ballet class at the age of 4. I danced all throughout my childhood and began teaching dance around 18 years old at my mother’s dance studio in Las Vegas, NV. My parents were professional dancers / performers and I was always around movement experts and watching them all take care of their bodies backstage with foam rollers, stretching, mobility & strength exercises, etc. I have had a fascination with anatomy and movement since I can remember.

I taught dance from 18 until about 25 years old when I graduated from the Art Institute with a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design. After briefly working a corporate job in Las Vegas, I decided to move to Los Angeles. I thought that if I could find a good job in Vegas then I would surely be able to find something in Los Angeles. Well… it was October 2008 mid-recession and I absolutely could not find a design job! So I reached out to a dance / yoga studio called SWERVE in West Hollywood and got, what I thought would be a temporary desk job at a little studio. That job turned into a decade of learning, moving and healing and also trained me to lead and help others. A total path changer!

I was in my late 20’s and suffered from tight achey joints, my spine would “go out” often and I had pain in my knees and wrists. I also suffered from many years of severe depression and anxiety as well as harmful self destructive behavior. I didn’t know it at the time but my nervous system was in shambles. I had my first child in 2009 and decided it was time to completely change and heal myself as I knew my child needed me to be healthy and well. I wanted to be healthy and well. SWERVE was a safe haven for myself and so many others. This is where I learned dance can be done just for fun! I was surrounded by energy healers, new age thinkers, yogis, nutritionists, movement “nerds”, mobility experts, dancers and more. I trained with some amazing teachers and practitioners who really had a huge impact on the work I do now.

I got back into movement as a career by getting trained to teach a lovely life changing class called “Yoga Booty Ballet”. I began teaching this class many times a week on the east and west sides of LA. I then trained to teach Reformer Pilates in a private studio in West Hollywood. This started my one on one healing practice over a decade ago. It started as Pilates for strength and alignment but as I continued my education and deepened my own healing practice, I began to infuse my teaching style with other healing modalities. I began working with people who had very specific pain points in their bodies. I started to realize that our nervous systems, traumas and habits have a HUGE impact on the physical body itself. I started including my Chakra training, meditation and breath work training, yoga training, and body work training into the mix. As I completed new certifications and teacher trainings I integrated it into my work. I now consider myself a Human Movement Specialist and Reiki Healing Practitioner (and I still teach Yoga Booty Ballet and Yoga).

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. In any sense. In any aspect of my life. Just battling crippling mental health issues and physical pain, while learning to be a parent, how to be in relationship, start a new career, in a new city with no family near by and heal all at the same time really was and still is hard work. I am grateful for ALL the challenges though. Every injury, every setback and every challenge has given me an opportunity to learn and grow and become more resilient. The more I can experience, the more I can relate to a wider range of clients. My career is unique in that healing myself IS the work I teach others. So the more I work on myself, the more I can be of service to others. I feel so blessed!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am primarily a Human Movement Specialist and a Reiki Healing Practitioner. I help people feel their best. I offer two main services:

Body Therapy:
I work one-on-one with clients to support their bodies and nervous systems through a tailored blend of Pilates, yoga, corrective strength training, and somatic bodywork. My approach is grounded in both movement science and nervous system regulation, helping each person improve alignment, reduce chronic pain, and feel more at home in their body. I help my clients navigate post-surgical rehab, manage chronic pain from trauma, or simply help them to stay strong and mobile, I meet them where they are—and help them build a deeper relationship with their bodies from the inside out.

Intuitive Body Work:
This hands-on healing session is designed to support the whole system—physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual. Sessions take place on a medical-grade Biomat, which uses far infrared heat, negative ions, and Amethyst crystals to promote cellular healing and deep relaxation.

Each session is guided intuitively and may include a combination of Reiki energy healing, acupressure, abdominal massage focused on the organs, lymphatic stimulation, deep tissue work, and sound therapy. I begin with a short check-in, then allow their body to lead the way. Many clients report a profound sense of relaxation that lasts for days—sometimes weeks. With regular sessions, the nervous system becomes more regulated, which supports digestion, lymphatic flow, joint and muscle function, and increased energy levels.

Other offerings:
My entire practice includes fun group classes, workshops and retreats. I like to offer different options and price points so everyone can find something that works for them, and that no one is turned away because of cost.

How do you define success?
I would define success as slow increased progress over time. Forward movement towards a goal or goals that allows you to create and achieve while also leaving room for balance and self care. Success is NOT linear and should never be equated to just finances or status. I am still working towards my goals and growing my business but if I look back to five or ten years ago, I would have never dreamed I would be where I am today. I am continuing to grow and heal, enjoying my life, enjoying my work, enjoying my family and most importantly, I am able to fully feel a wide range of human emotions without being triggered into a spiral of anxiety and depression. This is what I would define as success.
