Today we’d like to introduce you to Louisa Kendrick Burton.
Hi Louisa Kendrick, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m from New York City, where I performed as an Actor, Singer, and Dancer on and off Broadway for 15 years. I was a Radio City Rockette, Dancer, and Choreographer for Jimmy Buffett, and toured all over North America with various National and Regional tours. A strong desire to explore acting on screen brought me to Los Angeles. Acting on Television and in feature films, and Voice-over artist was all a welcome change from the stage and traveling. My passion for storytelling took another passionate turn when I wrote a short film to showcase myself as an actor, and the short was screened in a few film festivals and won a few awards. Adding writing to my storytelling toolbox has been a fulfilling part of the journey. I continue to write and teach pilates, not just to keep myself in great shape but to inspire others to never stop moving.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been the smoothest road to working actor and now writer in Los Angeles. The recent strikes and fires after the pandemic as brought uncertainty and tested my resolve. With all my eggs in the Entertainment Industry basket, I decided to study Pilates and teach others in a sedentary lifestyle that aging gracefully is possible. As a mom, I continue to pursue my passions so that my children can see determination in action.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Creating stories, whether they be written, through choreography, or acting, brings me a great amount of Joy. I miss performing on the stage, but I enjoy creating content. I recently directed a few short films, adding yet another tool to my creative toolbox. I enjoy working with other artists to bring a story to life. Through filmmaking, I seek to shine a light on social issues. As a writer, I bring strong women caught in familial trauma to life. I am most proud of a one-hour drama Mystery that gained entry into The Writer’s Lab 2023 cohort. The story was a personal undertaking where I set out to understand my upbringing, being raised by a single mom. I like to think my career changes and experiences brings a wide breath of knowledge to the stories I write and the films I make.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am always open to collaboration in film, whether that be producing content or writing a script. I am passionately pursuing television writing, looking to be staffed on a television show. I grew up watching some of the best television shows and look forward to being part of the television revolution. I can be reached on Instagram, Bluesky and LinkedIn.
