Check Out Lord Wright’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lord Wright

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
from a very young age, i always knew that i was someone special and meant to leave my mark on the world. i spent all of my childhood clawing at opportunities to perform and sing for anyone who was willing to watch, and this carried on through to my teen years when i started producing my own music. it was horrible! i moved to LA at 19 with my bestfriend and crashed in a warehouse with no shower. with such little money, i took what i could get, never losing that burning desire to make a name for myself. flash forward 4 years, and now i’m an upcoming pop star with an 8 song EP under my belt, along with a sophomore project coming soon. i’m inspired by everything, but most importantly, my experiences of finding myself in the streets of LA.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
HA! very far from it. from escaping an abusive past, struggling to find my voice as an artist, and surviving the city, it’s been extremely tough. i don’t really like focusing on this though. i think it’s more important to work towards a better future for myself. i’m a true optimist at heart.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
lord wright is a pop artist by every definition. if i had to sum up who i am as an artist though, i’d say i’m a pop star with extreme drag influence. i think all the best ones are. though i’m inspired by so much musically, i always find a way to formulate whatever i’m making with pop music in mind. drag has taken over my life, but especially the way i perform and my fashion. bigger is better! all the true gays know this. i’m most proud of the lord wright live experience and think this is what makes me stand out among the rest. when you come to a lord wright show, it’s raw vocals, full choreography, and pure electricity. i want people to leave knowing that i’m the real deal, no smoke and mirrors.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
i think creating art that pushes the culture forward matters the most to me. as a black trans woman, this comes natural to me and my sisters. just look at all of the trans trailblazers that come before me. you won’t find it in the history books but the impact they had will continue to be felt forever. it’s more important now than ever to create, be abrasive, and push the parameters of what art is known to be able to do
