Check Out Kyon Ball’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyon Ball.

Hi Kyon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
What’s up, I’m Kyon Ball! A musician, singer-songwriter/producer from Columbia, South Carolina now residing in Los Angeles, California.

My journey with music started in church when I was just seven years old. That’s when I first got behind a drum set and honestly, I haven’t looked back since. Drums were just the beginning. That early exposure opened the door to everything else. I started playing piano, guitar, ukulele whatever I could get my hands on.

In elementary school (Condor Arts Integrated Magnet School) , I joined a steel band and played instruments like steel pans, djembes, and timpani. That experience gave me a real appreciation for sound from different cultures and styles. By the time I got to middle school, I was deep into traditional band, playing percussion all the way through high school. Those years locked me in with rhythm and really helped sharpen my craft as a drummer.

When I was 15, I wrote my first song on guitar. That was a turning point for me. Up until then, I knew I loved music, but writing that song made me realize this isn’t just a hobby. This is what I want to do with my life. That moment gave me the confidence to pursue music seriously.

Even though I’d always sing a little on my own, I didn’t really start singing in front of people until I was around 17 or 18, mostly in church. It took some time to build that confidence, but once I did, it felt natural. Singing became another way to express myself just like drumming or writing.

After graduating high school, I got into music production. I started experimenting at home, making beats, writing songs, and recording vocals in my room. Producing gave me full creative control and allowed me to bring my ideas to life from scratch.

Today, I’m focused on creating music that feels real and tells a story. I blend the soulful roots I got from church with the rhythmic foundation of my percussion background and the freedom of self-produced sound. Whether it’s R&B, gospel, pop, or a mix of it all I’m always chasing that feeling of connection and truth through music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the hardest parts of my journey so far was moving from South Carolina to California and adjusting to a completely new environment. I had to figure out how to find consistent work, living arrangements, just the basics really but in a brand new place. It was a major shift for me, not just physically but culturally. Coming from the South and stepping into the fast-paced, diverse world of California was eye-opening. I had never been here before, so everything felt unfamiliar at first.

But despite the challenges, it’s been an amazing journey. I’ve met some incredible people, talented artists, supportive friends and those connections have really helped me grow. I’m still doing my thing, still moving forward, and I know I’m just getting started.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Right now, I’m an independent artist grinding, growing, and doing everything I can to make genuine connections in the industry. I specialize in singer-songwriter work and music production, and lately I’ve been working with local artists out here in California, whether it’s producing tracks or writing songs with them. Collaboration has been a big part of my journey recently, and it’s been dope helping other artists bring their visions to life.

What I’m most proud of right now is my latest single, Solana Beach//My Type, which dropped on June 7th. It had been a while since I put music out, but that break wasn’t downtime, it was a time of refining. I had to go deeper, get more intentional, and really lock in on my sound. I’ve always had good ideas and a strong creative direction, but with this release, I finally feel like I’ve arrived at the level I’ve been aiming for. Solana Beach//My Type reflects exactly where I am sonically and artistically.

My sound is a unique blend of R&B, soul, and alternative. It leans into that darker side of R&B—moody, alluring, and a little mysterious. It’s that late-night, cinematic vibe that pulls you in without trying too hard. I don’t think many people are doing what I’m doing right now, and that’s what makes it special. My music speaks for itself and I’m finally in a space where the music feels and sounds exactly how I want it to.
