Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Macedo
Hi Kim, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my musical career at the age of 18, fronting several touring and signed rock projects, based out of Southern California. After departing from my last band due to creative differences, I made the decision to embark on a solo venture. This is when I decided to take the leap and move to the heart of L.A.
After my debut release as a solo artist, I put my passion project to the side and signed with SALXCO (The Weeknd, Doja Cat, Bebe Rexha) to focus entirely on ghost writing and producing. It was within this time that I was able to feel some success again when I was featured on DIM MAK artist Tisoki’s “It’s Ok” which has steadily been climbing with over 6 million streams on Spotify. Through these opportunities, I was able to travel the world, attending writing camps in Dubai, Moscow, and of Course L.A. This is how I met my fellow producer and current band mate RaisedbyWolvvs. Together we started a Brazilian rock duo called TRVSH. Today I am actively releasing and performing with TRVSH, and still writing and producing for new artists, sync briefs and pitch briefs.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve quit the industry many times, just to find myself back in it again. It can be brutal. I’ve been promised so many things, so much money by pretty big names in the industry, just to find out it was all talk. I’ve been jaded many times but leaving is what made me realize my purpose. I know now the talent I hold and the weight of that. I advise everyone to try and find that breaking point. It opens up a whole new world you never knew existed. Just stay persistent.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter/producer by trade but I specialize in vocals. I went to school for vocal performance. I was very skeptical about college and what a diploma would do for me in the real world, but I know now, the knowledge I hold today is invaluable. I am able to manipulate many different styles of vocals which help me write songs in many different genres, or coach an artist when tracking vocals to get the perfect take. It’s really a gift.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Everyone comes here to be an artist. I think that answers both questions lol. I love being in a melting pot with some of the best to ever do it. It gives me drive and made me the producer I am today. What I don’t like is the lack of brotherhood or camaraderie. It’s a dog eat dog city, I know, but we’d be better off trying to help one another instead of being gate keepers. Theres so much exclusivity in this industry and it’s such bullshit. I feel bad for the younger artists who move here, cause when you peel back that curtain, it’s really lame.
