Check Out Katie Kenny’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Kenny

Hi Katie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
With over 12 years in the beauty industry as a hairstylist and makeup artist, my career has taken me from the MAC counter at Macy’s to fashion week, bridal, and behind the chair. My true passion lies in working closely with people, enhancing their natural beauty and personal style to help them feel like the best version of themselves.

I’m originally from New Jersey but spent most of my career in Denver before settling in California. Recently, I relocated to Los Angeles from the Bay Area with my husband and our dog, Disco.

When I’m not with clients, I enjoy creating educational beauty content on social media. I love showcasing beauty brands that prioritize product integrity and care about both consumers and the environment.

My passion for conscious beauty consumption stems from my personal journey with infertility and autoimmune issues. Through my content, I aim to empower my community to make more informed choices, feel beautiful, and advocate for themselves in the beauty space.

Whether I’m behind the chair or behind the camera, my goal remains the same: to create authentic connections around beauty.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many professionals in the beauty industry, COVID-19 significantly changed how we work. For me, this was coupled with a recent move to the Bay Area from Denver, where I’d built my business for over eight years.

Two years ago, my husband got an exciting opportunity that brought us to Los Angeles. Though I was excited to move to such a cultural and creative hub, moving two times in the span of a few years presented a unique and added challenge – I felt like I was consistently reinventing my business and rebuilding my clientele and network from scratch.

What felt like a challenge at that time, has turned into so many amazing learnings, new connections and opportunities for growth. The transition has been both exciting and demanding, as I’ve had to continuously pivot and adapt to new markets – but I’ve proven to myself that I’m able to pivot, meet and work with amazing clients in each city I’ve lived in, and to bet on myself as a small business owner again and again.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Whether I’m behind the chair or working with brides on their wedding day, my goal is always the same: to enhance natural beauty. My clients often tell me, “I still want to feel like myself, but better!” I blend my decade of experience with a passion for conscious and effective beauty products to bring their vision to life.

Having had the opportunity to work with clients in Boston, NY, Denver, San Francisco and LA and beyond over the years has given me a unique perspective on getting to service clients with a blend of styles over the years.

I believe my clients appreciate my honest and collaborative approach. Seeing clients a few times a year, whether in the salon or during those quiet moments on their wedding day, allows us to build a genuine connection that fosters a strong, long-term working relationship.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest in my career is the opportunity to build genuine connections with my clients. Whether it’s seeing them leave my chair with newfound confidence or receiving a message about how great they felt after our time together, those moments are incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that I can contribute to their special occasions, like weddings or important life events, motivates me to keep doing what I love.

In addition to working with clients, I find joy in sharing educational beauty content that empowers people to make informed choices about their beauty routines. I believe that knowledge is power, and by providing valuable insights and tips, I hope to inspire others to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
