Check Out Kathleen Atkins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Atkins

Hi Kathleen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a licensed sound practitioner offering soundbaths in the Coachella Valley and beyond. My passion for sound healing began when I rediscovered my voice through a Tibetan singing bowl gifted to me by my mom. At the time, I was living in NYC, pursuing a career in musical theater but facing numerous challenges, many of which stemmed from a lack of confidence in myself and my voice. Eventually, I stopped singing altogether, and in doing so, lost a vital part of my identity. I deeply missed the joy that singing brought into my life.
When I began using the singing bowl, which I lovingly named Brigid, in my meditations and rituals I started to reconnect with this lost part of myself. This practice slowly rekindled my relationship with my voice and sparked curiosity in sound. As a singer who has used sound healing to reconnect with herself, I am passionate about helping others experience the same transformative benefits. This curiosity and passion led to the creation of Songbird SoundBaths.
I am also a proud co-founder of AlMonía Souls in Harmony, a queer creative community reclaiming spirituality for all.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my biggest challenges has always been believing in and accepting myself fully. Growing up in a very small, conservative town in rural Montana, I graduated with only 18 kids in my class. It always felt like all eyes were on me. Coming from a blended family with step-siblings, I was constantly trying to figure out where I fit—if I fit—within our sibling dynamic. Life in rural Montana had its ups, but it also had its downs, especially when it came to exploring who I was.
I didn’t feel comfortable exploring my sexuality until I moved to NYC in my 20s. The lack of self-confidence that shadowed me growing up eventually seeped into my attempt at pursuing musical theater. I wanted so badly to sing and perform, but I struggled to believe in myself. The judgments and rejections I faced in that world led me to shut down, “give up,” and eventually stop singing altogether.
Now, though, I’m finally living my best queer life, out and proud, and I’m deeply grateful to be the co-founder of AlMonía Souls in Harmony—a queer, creative community dedicated to reclaiming spirituality for all. I sing daily now, whether it’s for my soundbaths, just for myself, with my community choir, or wherever I can. I’m excited for all the possibilities that lie ahead.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer public group, private, and corporate soundbaths in Palm Springs, CA, and the surrounding areas. What makes my offerings unique is the way I incorporate my voice into every soundbath and healing session, alongside the crystal singing bowls and other sound healing instruments. Using my voice allows me to connect more deeply with the energy, the sound, and those who are participating. The most common feedback I receive is that the addition of the voice takes participants somewhere deeper, offering a truly transformative experience. I believe this is because it’s an authentic extension of myself and how this healing energy wants to flow through me.
I’m particularly proud of two offerings: my Soul Song SoundBath, which I host monthly at The Sukha Life Studio, and my new program, Songbird SoundBath, in collaboration with The LGBTQ Center of The Desert. Both take place in Palm Springs, CA.
Soul Song is an interactive, voice-activating experience where participants connect with their own voices through the power of vibration. Together, we hum, tone, and sing affirmations, creating a space for self-expression. After this, everyone lies back and enjoys a soundbath, feeling the vibrations of their own voice resonate through their entire being.
Songbird SoundBath is designed to give community members a much-needed break from the chaos and anxieties of everyday life. It offers a space where queer individuals can show up as their authentic selves, reconnect with their roots, and experience profound restoration. Each session explores themes like self-love, compassion, and pride, creating a space for deep healing and connection.

What’s next?
In the future, I see myself diving even deeper into the exploration of sound, my voice, & music, using it as a continuous journey of self-discovery. My passion lies in sharing the healing vibrations of sound, and I want to bring these experiences to more retreats, festivals, and community gatherings. Each event is a chance not only to connect with others but also to tap further into my own growth and expression.
I look forward to expanding the reach of these sound journeys, creating spaces where people can reconnect with themselves through the meditative and transformative power of sound. I’m excited to collaborate with other artists, healers, and event organizers, as well as create new opportunities for AlMonía’s gatherings and mission to expand our reach.
Ultimately, I want to be open to wherever this path leads, trusting that each step will bring me closer to the community, to my own inner voice, and to new opportunities for growth and connection.
