Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamil Ghaouti
Hi Kamil, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was fortunate enough to start making music and falling in love with it at age 15 when I was still in high school out of pure passion and an obsession to sound as good as my favorite artists at the time so by the time I went to uni three years later, I already had somewhat of a career start with releases on decent record labels and a few nice DJ supports without feeling the pressure of adult responsibilities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been rockier than it’s been smooth for sure, it still is but once in a long while you receive this one email, bearing news you’ve been waiting for for years, that gives you enough hope and energy to keep going for the next 10 years. It wasn’t easy to always keep at it no matter the amount of rejection and frustration this career comes with. I overcame the challenges by just knowing I didn’t really have another option cause what else would I do with my life if not this? I just took some time off and did something else to clear my mind when needed and came back every time I felt like I was ready to go again. Thankfully, I’ve always been able to handle rejection pretty well and never really took it personal since the beginning when I started sending demos out to labels and reaching out to bigger acts for feedback. I always thought of it as more of a numbers game and knew that not all demos I sent were gonna get signed to all the labels I sent them to so I’d be happy if I just got an answer from a label saying they don’t want to sign my track since I didn’t have to worry about spamming them anymore.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I make dance music that I consider pretty mainstream which basically anyone could listen to and enjoy pretty much everywhere, from the radio to the beach to the car late at night. I’ve pretty much tried every single electronic music sub-genre in my life and house music (deep and tech house mainly) with a pop twist has been what’s been doing it for me. I’m known mainly for my official remix for French rapper PLK his song ‘Émotif’, it’s counting more than 20 Million streams total today and charted in over 70 countries worldwide. I still get videos of the remix getting played out in clubs all over Europe like every week-end to this day which blows my mind every time, especially when my family or closest friends hear it somewhere and send me videos. I’m particularly proud of my discography up to now, every song I’ve ever released means something different to me and it makes me very happy when I see how many records I put out already and how many of my dream labels I’ve been able to work with throughout the years, especially when I think I’m only 25 and got my whole life ahead to keep doing that.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up as an only child, I spent a lot of time alone and had to find ways to keep myself busy which made me super curious, almost obsessed about whatever I was passionate about at the time. I used to be super passionate about football for example in middle school, that was my last true passion before making music which has been my obsession for the past ten years now so I guess that never really changed. Apart from that, my favorite thing has always been spending time with my friends and family, I feel like music is such an isolating activity (in a good way) that it made me realize the importance of community and keeping somewhat of a social life.
