Today we’d like to introduce you to Julieta Calcagno.
Hi Julieta, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Julieta Calcagno. Tejulis was born during the pandemic from the need to find peace of mind. For a long time, I wore black but one day, as if it were an awakening, I began to use colors feeling that if I began to transmit a playful energy outward little by little, I would also believe it myself… And so, Tejulis was transformed a little in my alter-ego, in the person I wanted to be, in a lifestyle. I took up forgotten techniques and gave them a twist to adapt them to my mission. Tejulis is authentic and fun, she is rebellious and revolutionary. It invites you to be yourself and to play with your clothes, which, after all, is the first impression we give to the outside.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
At first, it was a rapid and sudden growth. That obviously little by little was adapting and aligning itself to the needs of the market. Tejulis is completely evolving and growing since it represents my deepest and most authentic being. It is changing as I am also mutating. And that is why many times the public is renewed, there are those who connect with a past stage of the brand and those who connect with all of them. It depends on the path of each one. From my place, I try not only to sell but also to connect and live Tejulis as a knitting and lifestyle blog. Right now, we are on the way to make Tejulis a more international platform, since I moved to Italy and found the need to expand.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I feel that we are very used to living a life of appearances. Social networks often serve as a façade to show what we want to be seen, which is not always the reality of what happens to us. I think what sets Tejulis apart is its authenticity, the fact of always showing what represents me. Whatever it is. In turn, craftsmanship enhances the garment and transforms it into art, contrary to what happens with fast fashion. Sometimes the street looks like a parade of boring people, how many times have you seen people dressed in many colors and textures?
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My God! There are a lot of beautiful memories. I think one connected to this project could be the times that, in our country house, my mom taught me how to knit. I was something like 6-8 years old and she was not an expert, but since there was nothing to do in that house, crafts were our hobby, and I spent the time knitting scarves. Straight, boring, and with many errors hahaha.
