Check Out Joey Gibson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joey Gibson.

Hi Joey , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative. Bouncing around in the music industry from 2017 to early 2021 led to a passion for visual and product design during my brief time in college. I stuck with photography for a while and was invited to show at several galleries, included some merch, which eventually turned into a full-on apparel and accessory brand with the help of my friends. We didn’t know what we were doing—we just enjoyed the process of being together and watching a vision come to life. Truly the best feeling.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh man, it’s been a lot of learning, sacrifice, and patience, for sure. Educating yourself on the business side alone is a full-time job—maybe two if you’re also handling the creative side. But that’s also why I enjoy and am grateful for what I do.
It allows me to sharpen my skills and make even the most menial tasks fun.

I will say, letting go of instant gratification was a big step for me, too.
In a saturated industry, trusting yourself to put out a product to sell as a form of art can be daunting—especially growing up in such a media-forward generation where things get passed by so quickly.
My reassurance in all of this is, as you build your community, along the way you find people who you can really share with what you enjoy—
and sometimes, that’s all you need, you know?

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As of now, My Voyage Homme specializes in leather goods, accessories and homeware. My favorite project so far has been the release of our first fragrance, Sierra 210 inspired by the Los Angeles Forest. It just really hits home and serves as a nice reminder of what my hometown means to me.

I think what sets myself apart from others is that I am open to trying anything, especially at such an early stage in my career.
I’m no different than anyone else trying to do the same thing, but the references I pull from and appreciation for every detail in the business is a perfect place to embrace new ideas translating into genuine value. If a collector were to dig up one of my wallets 20-30 years from now, I want it to fit in with that generation seamlessly.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Pasadena has a certain charm that no other city can replicate. It’s timeless and lively, but it can also feel like a sleepy town you can cruise around in; a perfect balance to simply enjoy your time there. I don’t feel the need to rush in and out like I do in most places. If I could stay here forever I would.
There’s nothing negative to say about Pasadena, though I do wish there was a more curated space for menswear and womenswear. Hey, maybe I can change that in the future!
