Check Out Jazmine LamYuen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine LamYuen.

Hi Jazmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and privileged to grow up with my mom and a family who took us both in as their own. I was shown The Goonies at a very young age and knew then that I wanted to work in film whether behind or in front of the camera. I didn’t go to college until I was 20 where I attended a film school ( Full Sail University) in Orlando and got a Bachelor’s of Science in Film. I moved back to Houston for a bit after graduation and an opportunity opened up for me to move here to LA in September where I’ve been doing a lot of concert photography and trying to break ground into the film industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Right out of high school, I decided that I was not going to college because I didn’t want to dig myself a hole of student loans. I was depressed and anxious about my future 24/7 and finally made the decision to go to film school when I was 20 where I ended up digging myself a hole of student loans. I started school in March of 2020 when the world shut down and didn’t even get to set foot on campus until March of 2021. I was in a new city, a thousand miles away from my family and in a situation where I couldn’t make new friends if I tried because of the pandemic. After graduation, I was back home depressed because I was supposed to be in LA or Atlanta right out of graduation but wasn’t able to make the ends meet. There was a lot of doubt in myself after the plans and goals I set for myself were failed to be met.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am mostly known for concert photography. It was a hobby I picked up when I received my first camera as a 17 year old. I’m an avid concert goer so once I learned that there was this little nook in the music industry for concert photographers I just about lost my mind. I’m most proud of finding myself in areas that I as a teenager pre-camera that I never thought I’d be in. I think what sets me apart from others is that I can adapt and decide certain editing styles to how I feel the certain artists look.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope that I can maybe tour one day and just capture the little important moments in an artists tour as they go around the country. I want to shift maybe into tour or behind the album documentaries and even concert movies.
