Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmene M Thomas.
Hi Jazmene M, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my professional journey in 2006 as a licensed funeral director, where I learned the importance of compassion, precision, and creating meaningful experiences even in life’s most difficult moments. That work shaped how I show up for people — with intention, care, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure environments.
In 2020, I founded J. Moton Event Elements, channeling those same values into wedding planning and coordination. My vision was to help couples feel supported and at ease while bringing their dream celebrations to life. Over the years, J. Moton Event Elements grew into a trusted boutique planning firm known for being the “calm in the storm” of event planning.
By 2025, we expanded into the corporate space, becoming a designated supplier with the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission. This opened the door to serving corporate clients who want intentional, experience-driven events that not only flow seamlessly but also hold space for their brand’s voice. Today, I’m proud to lead a company that bridges both weddings and corporate events with the same philosophy: creating environments where stories, brands, and people can shine.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the first four years of J. Moton Event Elements, I played it small. I was hesitant to show my personality on social media, and I didn’t fully embrace my company as a brand. At the time, I thought keeping myself in the background was the “professional” thing to do.
That shifted when I received a grant from the Los Angeles Urban League, which gave me access to incredible one-on-one mentorship. One of my mentors, a sales expert with over 40 years of experience, saw something in me that I hadn’t yet seen in myself. He told me he wanted everyone to know who Jaz is — and that became a turning point.
Since then, I’ve used that encouragement as motivation in everything I do — networking, posting on social, or meeting with potential clients. I’ve learned that showing up as my authentic self is the greatest strength I bring to my business. I am deeply passionate about the event industry, and my focus is always on caring for my clients throughout the planning process.
That authenticity is now at the heart of J. Moton Event Elements. We position ourselves as the calm in the storm of event planning — creating intentional experiences while holding space for our clients’ voices, visions, and stories to shine.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At J. Moton Event Elements, we specialize in wedding and corporate event planning with a focus on intentionality, ease, and personalization. We’re known for being the “calm in the storm” — the team that brings clarity and composure to what can otherwise be a stressful process. Our approach is deeply client-centered: we design events that not only flow seamlessly but also hold space for our clients’ voices, visions, and brand identities to shine through.
What I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come as a company. From starting small to becoming an official supplier with the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission, we’ve grown into a trusted partner for both couples and corporate clients. I take pride in creating spaces where people feel cared for, seen, and celebrated — whether it’s an intimate wedding ceremony or a large-scale corporate activation.
What sets J. Moton Event Elements apart is our ability to balance logistics with heart. My background as a licensed funeral director taught me to remain grounded under pressure and to care deeply for people during life’s milestones. That same foundation carries into every event we plan — blending professionalism, creativity, and compassion to deliver experiences that are as memorable as they are meaningful.
One example is our signature “Love Bubble” experience for weddings. Instead of couples feeling pulled in a million directions, we create an intentional environment where they can stay fully present with each other and their loved ones. That same philosophy translates to corporate events as well — ensuring brands feel fully represented and guests leave with lasting, positive impressions. It’s these intentional touches that transform an event from just another gathering into something truly unforgettable.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I believe has been most important to my success is my ability to remain calm under pressure. Event planning can be unpredictable, and my clients trust me to be their steady anchor when challenges arise. That calmness allows me to think clearly, solve problems quickly, and guide everyone involved with confidence.
Equally important is authenticity — showing up as my true self. Once I embraced that, it became a strength in how I connect with clients, vendors, and partners. People don’t just hire me for logistics; they hire me because they feel seen, heard, and cared for throughout the process. That combination of composure and authenticity has shaped J. Moton Event Elements into the brand it is today.
