Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylen Cooper
Hi Jaylen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Since I was a kid I have always been interested in creating things and selling them. It started with selling my toys in the 4th grade. origami was also one of my favorite past times as a child. Paper was one of my favorite mediums to work with. It evolved to duct tape wallets and that was when I made my first $50 dollars after school in 5th Grade and I knew making art was my passion. Fast forward to 2018 and now it has changed form again and I am interested in making clothes at this point. Making clothes by hand with a sewing machine and painting on clothes was something I gradually taught myself over the years until 2022 when i picked up tattooing. I actually picked up this skill by learning how to do so with a past partner. We tattooed each other many times for us both to learn. Now in the present moment I am making clothes by hand to sell as collectors items, and designing items to be manufactured. I am coming into the nature of an entrepreneur and it has always been my dream to live well off making art and serving people as I create. I am excited to show my vision to the world through my brand, tattoos, music, photography and cinematography. I am so grateful and humbled everyday. love to all! ~ Jaylen Cooper
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been nothing but smooth. I have gone through so many changes learning all different kinds of mediums and techniques to create clothes on my own, tattooing peoples skin, drawing realistically, modeling under photogenics LA, and making music with videos. Over the past 6 years I have really came into my creativity to the best of my ability but I failed so many times and I have barely been able to support myself off of my passion but it is my passion. I wont give up on my passion because I know it is my purpose and what I have to share with the world. Making money was a huge struggle because making clothes is extremely time consuming. I started working at a tattoo studio with someone I had met right after needing a new job because some big life changes had just gone down and then once I helped get it set up and I worked their for a few days I had to stop working there. With all that playing out, i stuck to my wits and dove back into affiliate marketing and clothing again. I will continue to tattoo because it is such a fun expression of art. I have plans coming for very special events where i will giveaways tattoos to people who win the special “artifact pieces” and if they have successfully acquired one of these pieces then they will get a free tattoo. I am also thinking of tattooing people at pop up shops where I sell the designs and only do one of one pieces on people. I am so excited to show everyone my vision of the world with my clothes and artistic expression.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Art has so many forms of expression and I have chosen to work with a few of them. Making clothes/helpful products that are branded under my name Jaylen Cooper or BrightBloodBirth is my main project at the moment because it is how my people are gonna find me and see my art all over the world. Tattooing is an intimate expression of permanent art that I am very enthralled in because of its play with permanence and temperance, Nowadays you can go get a tattoo removed if you really don’t want a tattoo but if you really stick with what you get which is how some people operate that the art is permanent but you are temporary…and so its beautiful because you are writing a story on your body. It is a beautiful expression and also proof of the passage of time. I enjoy this and plan to continue this practice. As for the rest of the things i work in, I make music and my dad is in the music industry under the name Begetz. I usually just make stuff with my friends and I do have plans to release collections of audio with videos for every song maybe even with a cohesive story with some mystery to it. Like I said before, I am so excited to show everyone my vision every day, I am going to specialize in building the community around my creations with a narrative in the products that is reinforced in my music, as well as tattoos for people who really appreciate what I do. I am known for being an artist in general and I like that. Labels don’t really bother me so just being seen as a creative pleases me. People come to me for business and art advice and It really warms my heart. I have been told that I already have my lane carved out by people regardless of if they were my friend, family, or a stranger and that definitely reinforces my drive and passion even though art is fun to make anyways. I am most proud of getting some of my clothes on a celebrity in a music video and sending my clothes to musicians I used to look up to like Thouxanbandfauni, Blackwinterwells, 8485 or warehost, kmoe, and even ecco2k. I think the only thing that sets me apart from others is who I am or really ,” how I express myself.” I have so many cool people who inspire me in my community like Finely Lawton who owns a clothing brand with his best friend named Keianu called Lawncinto or Avery Dinh who also models. The people around me who express themselves so true to themselves are the reason I will be set apart from others. We all have a gift to share with the world.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
The only thing left to do is pay my dues to everyone who has helped me get to where I am in my creative en-devours. I think the best way to do this is just leave a list of people that have influenced me over the past 6 years. lots of love to everyone,
