Check Out James Brock’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Brock.

Hi James , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Clap It Up LA began as a motivational speaking platform rooted in the power of storytelling. Inspired by interviews from figures like Nipsey Hussle and Tyler Perry—who shared how they overcame loss and adversity—I found motivation in their journeys. That inspiration eventually led me to start conducting my own interviews.

As the vision grew, Clap It Up evolved into a live panel series, now heading into its seventh panel this year. We’ve been honored to feature influential voices such as LaRussell, Mike & Keys, DJ Hed, DJ Carisma, Storm Debarge, Gina Views, Desto Dubb, Jeremy Hecht, and many more.

The heart of these panels is to remind every person in the room that struggle is a necessary part of the process. Success is rarely linear, and the ups and downs are what shape the journey. Through transparent, honest conversations, we aim to highlight the moments of doubt, resilience, and growth that define each panelist’s path.

This year, we also hosted our first-ever Clap It Up Conference, marking a major milestone—and just the beginning of many more to come.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the biggest challenges I’ve faced while building Clap It Up LA haven’t just been financial—they’ve been mental. There are days where everything feels great and full of purpose, and there are days when I’m filled with uncertainty. Sometimes I genuinely question if what I’m doing even makes sense. The panels, especially, bring out the heaviest part of that mental battle.

Right before a panel, I often face my hardest internal challenges. My mind can spiral into doubt—feeling anxious, overwhelmed, even dark. I become hyper-aware of every little detail, worried about how it will all come together, hoping it resonates the way I intend. It’s not just nerves—it’s deep fear, mixed with the pressure of wanting to deliver something meaningful.

Financially, there were times I was completely broke—truly at my lowest as an adult. And yet, I still invested every single dollar I had into Clap It Up LA, because I believed in it that much.

Building a team has also been a major challenge. You need people around you who believe in the vision as much as you do, who will show up and commit when things get tough. And while some people have come and gone, I’ve been blessed to find a solid core group that helps keep this mission moving forward.

So yes—the challenges have been mental, emotional, and financial. But I’ve learned through all of it that those struggles are what shape the foundation. They’ve made me stronger. They’ve made this platform more meaningful. And they’ve made the wins—no matter how big or small—feel that much more powerful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned through building Clap It Up LA is how to trust myself. I used to struggle with making decisions, always second-guessing if I was right or worrying what others would think. But this journey has forced me to grow as a leader—to make decisions based on what I feel is right and be okay with the outcome, whether it works out or not.

Clap It Up has taught me that even if a decision ends up being wrong, it’s still part of the process. I’ll learn from it and keep going. What matters most is believing in myself enough to make the call, stand on it, and keep moving forward.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I have to give all glory to Jesus Christ—none of this would be possible without Him. I also have to thank my wife, who has stood by me through everything. Big love and appreciation to Sneaks, Ellie, and Chuck Dizzle—y’all have truly been part of this journey.

If I’ve forgotten anyone, please forgive me. Just know that I’m grateful. These are the people who have supported me, challenged me, and walked through the fire with me. They’ve seen the behind-the-scenes—helped me build, grow, and push through uncomfortable conversations and tough moments. Their presence means more than words can say.

And a huge thank you to my entire community—those who continue to show up and support Clap It Up LA in all shapes and fashions. Whether it’s attending an event, sharing a post, giving encouragement, or just believing in the vision—you matter, and I see you. Thank you for helping make this movement what it
