Check Out Hank Schyma’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hank Schyma.

Hank Schyma

Hi Hank, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Oof. That’s a big one. I suppose YouTube has largely enabled me to do what I do today. For better or worse, witnessing and documenting the natural world and making music have always been massive driving priorities in my life. Without my success on YouTube, I’d likely still be campsite and couch surfing with just enough gas to get to the next gig.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say pretty smooth. I’m comfortable not having possessions or stability. As long as we have our health, we’re good, right? As a musician, one night, you’re eating tuna out of a can and sleeping in your car. The next, you’re limo to your four-star hotel full of champagne and whatnot. I never knew what was around the next corner, and it was a helluva lotta fun.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I travel the world in search of Mother Nature’s finest and make a video. Some are educational, and some are silly. When I’m not doing that, I’m writing songs and working them in the clubs. I suppose it’s my catalog of tornadoes and thunderstorms that I’m known for the most.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Hmm… Not really. I network about once every six months, but only because I get tricked into doing it. I rarely post or go on Facebook, X or the others. Regarding mentors, make sure they don’t suck.
