Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Graham.
Hi Faith, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was little I watched my mom perform in an improv show and I immediately knew that that was what I wanted to do one day. My mom got me into acting, got me signed by a manager and agent, and I began to get auditions! I did a few commercials when I was little, along with a Lifetime movie and some voiceover jobs, and I loved every moment I got to spend on set. When I was six, I realized that I really loved theatre. I was enrolled in community theatre productions, my first ever one being a church musical. When I was ten I began to take theatre more seriously and auditioned professionally. My very first professional theatre production that I booked was a staged reading for a new musical called “It’s All Your Fault, Tyler Price!” when I was thirteen. Then, I got “The Wizard of Oz” at Musical Theatre West, where I played the Mayor of Munchkinland. I had such a blast with that show, and it was the first time I had performed in such a big theatre. I actually got my next show at the closing party for “The Wizard of Oz”! I was invited back to do another reading for Tyler Price, with a bunch of updates to the script. Then, this past November, Tyler Price made it’s world premiere at the Hudson Theatre, which I got to be a part of! It was the best experience of my life, and I still cannot believe that it actually happened to me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some obstacles that I, and many other performers have faced is how competitive it is in this industry. Everyone is so talented, so it’s really hard to get places. It’s also difficult because you make friends with people who are in the industry as well and who are going up for the same projects as you, and then you have to be happy for them when they book things and you don’t. And, especially being a girl, it is way harder than it is for boys because there are so many more girls out there who are doing the same thing, so it makes it even harder to get anything because you are always up against so many extremely talented people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actress. I do voiceover work, film, commercials, but I mostly specialize in theatre. I think that I would be most known for playing Lucy in “It’s All Your Fault, Tyler Price!” which made its world premiere at the Hudson Theatre this past fall. I’m very proud of getting to be a part of such an amazing industry. We all love what we’re doing and it feels like we are all making a change in our world by telling stories for everyone to see. I’m very passionate about performing and I love it more than anything else in the world. I will always take a chance to perform, no matter what it is.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Some advice that I have is don’t give up. It may be really hard at times, but things will end up working out. And, even if you don’t get some things, there are still plenty of other things out there for you. Some roles just aren’t right for you, but there are other roles that are perfect for who you are and what you do. Don’t give up on this industry or on yourself, because you will get there. It might take longer than you hoped it would, but I think that you should still wait for it to come, because when it does, it will be the best time of your life.
