Check Out EMBY MATTHEWS’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to EMBY MATTHEWS.

EMBY MATTHEWS

Hi EMBY, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Recently, ive been trying to hone in on what is troubling me most in my life. Ive always been trying to change everything about who I am, tearing myself apart for people. Everything kinda feels like its powered by that, a wanting to change myself to feel loved. I feel like in the process, Ive lost who i am to that noise.

In my new song and music video We Could Change, I wrote programs in java to make an AI “puppet”. no ai was used to make it. I use this character to contrast it’s maker, who is a white collar worker who is feeding this thing. I feel like I’ve fed this fake, bad side of myself too much and it eats at my whole life. Thats what I was trying to capture in the song’s lyrics as-well. “Should I kill this thought” appears twice in the song, and its just me saying “Man is it better to lean into this awfulness so that I am loved, or should I try and find the authentic me within the mess.

I feel like that mirrors ai really well. We are all feeding into this thing that may slightly help us, but has the power to destroy us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
my biggest challenges as of recent have been navigating the current landscape of music promotion. I have plenty of song ideas and love my art. The hard part is all that comes next. It feels like, with apps going down left and right, and just the odd state we find the world in, its become more difficult, yet important to reach the right people for your message. If it weren’t for the help of my brother, “Hi, Im Chris”, It would be a really lonely thing to navigate. its really nice to have someone you trust to work things out with. We also have just released a track called Something, and we use the power of both our audiences, and knowing that try to make something (pun) special that can reach and be fun and a bit more zaney and wacky. I think there needs to be a bit more fun in the world right now, not much is silly for so many. Why would i wanna only project more problems out there. I make sad and contemplative songs, but this is a big chance to get good out to more people!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I feel what sets me apart, is that I really do try and know my rules before I break them. I studied Electronic Production and Design and Berklee College of Music, and have just graduated. It was a mind numbing process trying to cram theory and get to where I need to be. I feel im there. I work hard to provide something of quality, while still alowing for a raw emotional product to get to people. Thats what I want, a polished well spoken message each time, even if that message is simple or silly.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I am playing some shows soon in Arizona and Atlanta, and im hoping to have a much steadier release schedule. I really want to push myself to play a ton of shows and get better at live performance of my sessions on my Eurorack! I also want to get some more visual content made, and a little superficial but id like to hit 100K monthly listeners in the next 2 years! I know I will!
