Today we’d like to introduce you to Dusty Nabor.
Hi Dusty, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my winery in 2015 through a simple passion for drinking and collecting wine. I was intrigued with the process of making wine so I decided to give it a shot at a local custom crush. I started with two barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. That has quickly snowballed in the last 7 years to three brands producing over 2000 cases a year.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a fairly smooth road. Of course, there are challenges built in but that’s why I do it. Luckily, I had the funds from my other business that allowed me to start the winery without borrowing any money.
That always makes the journey easier and less stressful. The bumpy road plays out in the making of the wine itself. It doesn’t always turn out as designed or expected and that can be a real roller coaster.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make wine… simple as that. I procure fruit from Santa Barbara County and produce the wine in Camarillo. I’m a one-man show and responsible for all aspects of the winery and operations. From running the forklift to packing the boxes and making sales. I do it all. I don’t think anything really sets me apart from other wineries besides, well, me.
I’m the difference. Customers and enthusiasts get a wine that reflects me, my values, my resources, and my philosophies.
My goal is to make sure all those things show through in the final product. But most of all where the vines and grapes are grown. It’s very important to me to be extremely low intervention and make sure the place and time show in the wines.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People often find it very surprising that I do everything myself. Even though the volume is pretty small, it’s still a fairly large operation for just one person.
