Check Out David Sheftell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Sheftell.

Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First of all, I’d love to thank you so much for having me back on Voyage LA. Last time we spoke, I told you all about my beginnings as an Actor and my start in the Entertainment business, which if people want to read they can right here:

Meet David Sheftell

Since then, I’ve continued progressing in my acting career while also starting a production company, Manticore Pictures. As well as having joined the Writer’s Guild of America West, not only as a member but as one of the hosts of its podcast 3rd & Fairfax where we interview writers for film and television.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I believe someone once said, “if it were easy, everyone would do it.” So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road, but it definitely has been a fun one. Since joining the WGA & hosting the podcast 3rd & Fairfax, I’ve been fortunate enough to interview some amazingly talented writers such as Judd Apatow, Seth Rogan & Evan Goldberg, Natasha Lyonne, David A. Goodman, James Gunn, Oscar Winner Sian Heder, and many more!

The response has been so overwhelming that I’ve actually been encouraged to and have started my own interview podcast called Shef&Tell with David Sheftell. On it, I interview people throughout all aspects of the Entertainment business from writers, directors, producers, actors, and documentarians. You can catch all episodes of Shef&Tell with David Sheftell as well as 3rd & Fairfax, wherever you get your podcasts. Just remember to please listen, subscribe, and review! Oh and tell a friend.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since we last spoke, on the acting front I’ve been very busy. I starred opposite Nicolas Cage in the film “Willy’s Wonderland” which you can watch right now on Hulu. I shot a movie in Hawaii with Wendie Malick called “7,000 Miles,” which is coming out later this year, so stay tuned. Booked roles on both “Doogie Kamealoha, M.D” on Disney + and the AGC film “The Present” starring Isla Fisher & Gregg Kinear and directed by Christian Ditter, just a week apart from each other. And I’m the lead voice on the hit Facebook Watch animated show “Rival Peak” & “Rival Speak” with Wil Wheaton, which garners over 18 Million Views an episode.

Along with launching my interviewing, hosting, podcast career, I’ve also started my own Production Company, Manticore Pictures. We specialize in giving first-time writers and directors a platform to get their projects made. We love new voices, new ideas, and we want to hear from them. I am also currently developing several things that I have personally written for television as well as several features.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is don’t box yourself in. The worst thing about the Entertainment Business is there are no rules, but the absolute best thing about the Entertainment Business is there are NO RULES. You have so many avenues now to get your art out there. So just because you start in one aspect of this business, don’t close yourself off to all the amazing other aspects this business has to offer, you just might fall in love with that too! Plus, you never know who you’re going to meet.
