Check Out David Anthony’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Anthony.

Hi David, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story began when I started Santa Monica College back in Fall 2009. Fast forward to winter 2010 in February, I needed to take an elective course, and I decided to take Photography 1 since it’s an intro class. I really wanted a professional camera, and I had financial aid. I figure well, it’s going to my education, so I went ahead and got the camera and took the course. I ended up getting a C in the class, but most of the information just stuck with me.

My main goal was to do Graphic Design and my minor Photography since they go hand in hand. I went ahead and graduated with an AA in Public Policy(I know shocker). I went to the Art Institute of California – Los Angeles then transferred to the Hollywood campus. Fast forward, I was almost about to graduate but then the school closed down. Good thing I self-taught myself on almost everything. I appreciated the on-campus classes I took, and managed to take what I learn from what my professors taught me and ran with it.

I’ve been taking photographs left and right until I think my work is great. I always say practice makes perfect, but creativity is what makes your work perfect.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been bumpy at first since I had to find models for my work. I started with family members since it’s the easiest, and they can’t say no, haha. The struggling part was reaching out to real models and see if they’re willing to take a chance with you.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m into editorial fashion photography. I’ll even throw in some implied nudity as well. I love when a model shows off their hard work but still makes it art and fashion. I’m getting more recognition with my black-and-white photos and how I retouch them. Simplicity goes a long way is what I always say.

I’m very proud of how far I’ve come, and I still find it crazy how I’m starting to get noticed more.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Just have fun on set.
