Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Chann & Gary Wong.

Hi Dana Chann &, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We are a husband and wife team who started a nutz company by accident during the pandemic in 2021. While Dana was doing Mobile Notary work one day, she took a sample of the honey walnuts that is made by our parents and gave it to a client. Originally, the client states she didn’t want to try it as walnuts are hard for her. Dana told her it’s not hard, but rather crispy so she gave it a try and loved them. She asked how to buy some for the holiday and Dana told her she doesn’t know, but will go home and ask if her Mother in Law if she will make some to sell. We tested out the honey walnuts by giving it away on Facebook and got positive feedback that they were delicious. Gary is the one who named the company, Dem’ Nutz. We started at 2 local Farmers Market selling only 3 flavors (honey walnuts, spicy walnuts and honey pecans). After 9 months at the Farmers Markets, we found our way into doing pop-up events where we were able to reach more people and increase sales. We hand make all of our nutz and crack (“brittle”) in small batches from scratch and now travel within Southern California to sell our nutz. We just started to venture into Arizona this year. We now have created more than 10 flavors of nutz from honey walnuts, spicy walnuts, honey pecans, spicy honey pecans, garlic parm cashews, spicy garlic pistachios, almond crack, strawberry cashew crack, peppermint pistachio crack, spicy pistachio crack, li hing pistaction, lemon pepper almonds, ranch almonds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our obstacle is figuring out how to increase our production as everything is done by hand and in such a small batch. Everything we do is laborious and we would love to figure out how to make it less labor intensive.

Our future challenge will be how we leave the pop-up events and mass produce our products so that we can distribute through wholesale and reach even more people who are not in Southern California.

We hand make our nutz and crack in ways that has never been done before as it’s done in such a small batch and super labor intensive. We always tell people Dem’ Nutz is the Best Nutz You’ll Have Today!

Our branding is all about bringing smiles, laughter and delicious nutz to people.

We have customized nut sacks where people can customize a name or phrase on the burlap bag and then it comes with our delicious nutz and a squeezable stress nutz.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Our entire business is a huge risk as we’re making delicious nutz with no culinary background but just using our judgment and trial and errors when coming up with new recipe and flavors.
