Today we’d like to introduce you to Cnvs.
cnvs, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The band was originally formed by Hans Lopez and Danny Castrejon in high school. The band cycled through members while writing original music such as the first single “Waited for You.” Later on, Michael Johnson joined the band as one of the guitarists. Danny and Michael met while working together at Target in Fullerton. The three members began writing original music at Michael’s house. Without a drummer, it was difficult for the band to practice and perform live music. They nearly finished the EP before meeting the drummer Nolan Rosario. The band attended the grand opening of a local music shop in Fullerton which is where they met Nolan. Nolan worked at the music store and agreed to jam with the band even though he currently wasn’t looking to be part of a band. While they jammed a few days later, the guys had an instant connection. Nolan joined the band the same night they jammed and cnvs was officially formed. The band quickly became good friends and did almost everything together. They have released three singles on all streaming platforms and intend to release an EP soon. Lately, the band has lately been focusing on releasing their EP while performing in OC’s and LA’s local music scenes.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A big struggle for the band was not having a drummer for over a year. That gave the band the space to write and practice, but it kept them from being able to perform and gain a following.
Another obstacle the band faced were financial problems. Due to the lack of finances, the band struggled to find a space to create and practice live music. Therefore, they had to write and record in a bedroom to release music. The band was eventually able to come together to afford a studio in Santa Ana.
Another struggle for the band is finding a uniform sound since the members have different artists that inspire them. We like a wide range of music genres which sometimes makes it difficult to find our sound as a collective team.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
cnvs consists of 4 members. Nolan Rosario, Danny Castrejon, Michael Johnson, and Hans Lopez. We specialize in rock and some of its subgenres. We are best known for writing and performing alternative rock in the local music scene of Orange County, We are most proud of how many people show up for us when we perform. We genuinely feel like we have been creating our own community in our area. When we perform, we are surrounded by friends, family, and strangers that sometimes become new friends. Something that sets us apart from others, is the attention to detail we put into our shows. We find creative ways to develop a show that flows into one story. We create transitions and melodies that help carry the show in a consistent flow. We are intentional about creating an experience rather than a simple show. We look forward to progressing and finding new ways to create unique experiences for the audiences at shows. Also, something else we are proud of is that we are a close friend group and not just a band. Even when we are not working on music, we are together experiencing life.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We have close friends and fellow music artists that have contributed to our success. Our friend Jaz is always there for us when we need her. She has gone to almost every show to show support and film/take photos for us. She also helps with our social media posts and creating posters for us. She is a multi-talented creative who has helped us with photography, graphic design, and videography.
We have partnered with a producer named Brian Ishiba who has been mixing and mastering our EP. He has played a crucial role in helping us develop our sound for streaming platforms.
The band has also received a lot of moral support from their families and local communities.
Nolan’s cousin Gillian has also helped the band with designing and creating merch. The band has been able to sell a lot of t-shirts and stickers because of her.
