Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Beal.
Hi Chris, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Chris Beal, a seasoned producer with 20 years of experience in the entertainment industry. My journey began after graduating from Howard University, where I landed a role as a production management trainee at Warner Bros. This was my foot in the door, and I took full advantage of the opportunity.
During my time at Warner Bros., I worked on several big-budget productions, including “Message in a Bottle,” “The Green Mile,” “Deep Blue Sea,” “Romeo Must Die,” and “Bait.” These experiences not only honed my skills but also gave me a deep understanding of the production process from development to release.
As I continued to grow in my career, I made the transition from location managing to line producing. This shift allowed me to bring my unique skillset to projects such as “The Kings of Napa” Season 1 for Warner Bros, “Bel Air” Season 2 for Peacock, and Disney’s “She Taught Love.”
One of the highlights of my career was completing the Netflix/Shondaland Producer Inclusion Initiative. This program not only expanded my network but also provided me with the tools and knowledge to excel as a producer in the industry.
Most recently, I’ve been focused on my own projects, including my short film “Superman Doesn’t Steal,” which has been making waves on the film festival circuit. The film has won several awards, including three audience awards and Best Short Film at multiple festivals. It’s also been selected for the prestigious American Pavilion Emerging Filmmaker Showcase at the Cannes Film Festival.
Throughout my career, I’ve been driven by a passion for storytelling and a commitment to delivering high-quality productions. I’m proud of the work I’ve done and excited to see what the future holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. As a woman of color in the entertainment industry, I’ve faced my share of challenges and obstacles. One of the most significant hurdles has been navigating the limited opportunities and biases that exist in the industry.
Additionally, working on films with limited budgets has required me to be incredibly resourceful and creative. I recall working on my short film “Superman Doesn’t Steal,” where we had to get inventive with our resources due to budget constraints. Despite these challenges, I’ve learned to thrive in these environments and have developed a skillset that allows me to produce high-quality content even with limited resources.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a seasoned Line Producer and Locations Manager, I specialize in navigating the intricacies of budgeting and logistics to bring visionary projects to life. My expertise has been honed through years of experience working on high-profile productions, including the hit series “Bel Air.”
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to connect with people on a deeply personal level. This innate gift allows me to foster meaningful relationships with cast and crew members, creating a collaborative and supportive environment that is essential for producing exceptional content.
I’m particularly proud of my work on “The Kings of Napa” and my award-winning short film “Superman Doesn’t Steal.” These projects showcase my ability to balance creative vision with logistical expertise, resulting in engaging and memorable storytelling.
What sets me apart from others is my unique blend of technical expertise, creative vision, and interpersonal skills. I’m a true collaborator, dedicated to bringing out the best in everyone I work with.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’m grateful to have had a village of supporters who have played a significant role in my success. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of learning from and being guided by numerous mentors who have shared their expertise and wisdom with me.
On a personal level, my biggest cheerleader is my best friend Kaypri, who has been a constant source of encouragement and motivation. My mother and sister have also been instrumental in my journey, offering unwavering support and pushing me to pursue my dreams.
These incredible individuals have helped shape me into the producer I am today. Their influence has not only contributed to my success but has also inspired me to pay it forward and support others in their own endeavors. I’m thankful for their love, guidance, and unwavering support.
