Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Black III.
Hi Charles, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey began in luxury hospitality, where I spent over a decade with iconic brands like The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Orient Express Hotels, Cap Juluca, and Montage Hotels & Resorts. I was drawn to the art of service and strategy — creating thoughtful, elevated experiences that made people feel truly seen and supported. That passion eventually led me to real estate, first through marketing and residential development roles in the Caribbean, and later with residential components at luxury resorts. I was honored to be the first Ritz-Carlton team member relocated to Grand Cayman, where I helped launch the Residences and served as the face of the brand for buyers — setting expectations around service standards and lifestyle.
That foundation naturally transitioned into high-end real estate when I joined IMI, overseeing Caribbean marketing for properties like Fairmont and Raffles. These formative roles made it a seamless step into Los Angeles real estate when I was recruited by Rick Hilton and the late Jeff Hyland to join Hilton & Hyland. After serving as EVP of Marketing & Strategic Development there, I continued my journey at Compass, ultimately becoming the Managing Director of Luxury for Southern California and now serving as a Principal Agent.
Today, I bring that same level of care, precision, and strategic expertise to my clients — helping them build lasting wealth while feeling supported and empowered at every step. My business is deeply rooted in relationships and service, and my legacy, I hope, will be measured by the lives I’ve helped elevate and the trust I’ve worked hard to earn.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not a straight or smooth path — but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Early on, I had to navigate the shift from hospitality into real estate, which meant reinventing myself professionally. Leaving The Ritz-Carlton, a brand I loved and had grown with, to take on a purely real estate-focused role in the Caribbean was a leap of faith. Later, transitioning from behind-the-scenes marketing leadership to becoming a full-time agent in one of the most competitive markets in the world came with its own steep learning curve.
There were moments of uncertainty — financially, emotionally, even spiritually — especially when deals fell through or market conditions shifted. But those challenges forced me to evolve, to double down on strategy, service, and mindset. In the end, every obstacle sharpened my ability to guide others through their own high-stakes transitions with clarity and confidence. That’s a big part of why I do what I do today — to offer the kind of support I wish I had during my toughest moments.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a real estate agent focused on high-value residential properties throughout Greater Los Angeles, particularly Beverly Hills and the surrounding luxury markets. My work is grounded in strategy, discretion, and a deep commitment to the client experience. I specialize in representing sellers and buyers of distinctive homes — helping them navigate one of the most important financial and emotional decisions of their lives with confidence and clarity.
What I’m most proud of is the reputation I’ve built for trust, insight, and personalized service. I bring a unique perspective, having spent the first part of my career in luxury hospitality and brand development with companies like The Ritz-Carlton and Montage. That background shaped my entire approach to real estate. For me, this business is — and has always been — about service. I’ve been immersed in luxury my entire professional life, so anticipating needs, elevating experiences, and delivering with precision is second nature.
What sets me apart is that I view every transaction as an opportunity to lead with care, integrity, and strategic vision. My goal is not just to close deals, but to empower clients — to help them feel truly supported, well-advised, and confident as they take their next step.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Some of my favorite childhood memories revolve around spending time outdoors with my best friend, Terrell Kalmbach. We were born two months apart and grew up as next-door neighbors in Shreveport, Louisiana. Even after his family moved in second grade, mine ended up relocating to the house right behind his — just a fence between our backyards. From a young age, we had the freedom to explore the neighborhood, fish, and roam outside for hours — something that felt perfectly normal in the early ’70s.
That bond has lasted our entire lives — we went to neighboring colleges in New Orleans (Tulane and Loyola), lived in the same apartment complex after graduation, and stood as best men in each other’s weddings. Those early adventures shaped my love for nature, independence, and lifelong connection. To this day, my passion for the outdoors and appreciation for enduring friendships are rooted in those childhood experiences.
