Check Out Cesar Salas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cesar Salas.

Hi Cesar, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I didn’t start this journey with a business plan. I started with pain. I started with questions. I started in the middle of loss and chaos, unsure of what the next day held but knowing deep down that I couldn’t stay where I was.

Fitness didn’t save my life. Purpose did. And fitness just happened to be the first door I walked through that showed me what purpose could feel like.

I’ve made mistakes. I’ve let people down. I’ve been knocked flat, emotionally and physically. But every time I’ve been broken, I’ve found a reason to rebuild not just for me, but for the people I serve. What started as personal survival turned into a movement TFL (Train for Life). This place isn’t just a gym. It’s a sanctuary for transformation, a battleground for discipline, and a laboratory for becoming the strongest version of yourself inside and out.

I created TFL out of necessity. There was a gap between people who wanted to get fit and those who needed to get healthy. Between losing weight and finding meaning. I filled that gap with sweat, science, and soul. I used every certification I could earn, every mistake I ever made, and every ounce of experience to build programs that aren’t just about abs or PRs
they’re about ownership. About taking back your life and writing your own story.

I don’t just train bodies. I build humans. I help people confront the parts of themselves they’ve been running from and stand taller on the other side. I don’t need fame. I need meaning. And TFL has given me that.

Everything I’ve done, from late nights coaching to Halloween Workout nights to starting wellness programs for city employees. It all has been about one thing: leaving people better than I found them.

This isn’t about me. It never was. It’s about building something that outlives me. A blueprint. A movement. A legacy.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. Not even close.

In 2012, I was let go from LA Fitness. That moment humbled me, stripped me down, and forced me to ask who I really wanted to become. I could’ve stayed down, but I chose to rebuild. And in 2015, I opened TFL with nothing but grit, vision, and a few loyal people who believed in something bigger than just reps and sets.

Building TFL wasn’t about opening a gym. It was about building trust. Earning every client. Proving that I wasn’t just another trainer with a clipboard. I was someone who cared, who showed up, who stood in the fire with people when they felt like quitting. And just when momentum finally felt like it was on our side, the world shut down.

COVID almost broke us. The doors closed, the energy stopped, the silence was loud. I had to decide if I was going to walk away or reinvent what I built. I chose to fight for it. We rebuilt. We adapted. We went from surviving to leading again.

But the truth is, any business that lasts will face these moments. You don’t get to the top by skipping the rebuild. You get there by embracing it. Every great company has to evolve. Every great leader has to be willing to start again. And now, we’re standing in that beautiful tension between the essence of what was and the electric promise of what’s coming.

TFL was never just built for the easy seasons. It was built to outlast storms. And I carry that in me every day.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create experiences that change people’s lives.

I don’t just run a gym, I run a movement. I’ve built a place called TFL, Train For Life, where fitness isn’t the goal, it’s the vehicle. And what we do at TFL goes way beyond burpees and meal plans. We teach people how to live with fitness in their life, not just chase it as a side project.

We’re known for our signature challenges, especially D2S, the Drop 2 Sizes Challenge, an 8-week transformation that hits every core principle TFL stands on. We teach the Timekeeper Principle, which helps clients eat on a schedule. We train them to build their meals using PFF, Protein, Fat, and Fiber, and we anchor nutrition around real food with JERF, Just Eat Real Food. We eliminate snacking, introduce intermittent fasting, and restore control over eating habits in ways most people were never taught growing up. I wish someone had given me this blueprint when I was younger, so I built it for others.

But it doesn’t stop with structure. We create experiences. That’s what people show up for. From our legendary Dream Team Challenge, where members compete in teams, unlock leadership, push each other, and rediscover their drive, to our 5K Training Programs that take people from fear to finish line. That sense of crossing something they never thought they could do, you can’t put a price on that.

We’ve also got the Imperial Army Boot Camp, a Star Wars inspired workout adventure that’s half theater, half sweat, all connection. Then there’s our Strong Program, where members focus on strength development in the bench, squat, and deadlift, and learn how to command respect in and outside the gym.

We don’t take summers off. We train under the stars with Summer Workout Nights. We don’t wait until January. We go hard in Santa’s Boot Camp and finish the year strong. And don’t even get me started on Halloween Workout Nights, the energy, the creativity, the chaos, it’s unmatched.

What sets me apart is that I don’t train clients to just look fit. I train them to live fit. To integrate health into every part of their lives and still laugh, love, and lead. I specialize in giving people the tools to rewrite their story, physically, emotionally, and mentally. I give them a front row seat to their own comeback.

And what I’m most proud of, that I get to witness people win every day. Not just with fat loss, but with belief, with grit, with growth. TFL is where people stop surviving and start becoming.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, just one thing. I want every reader to know this. It is never too late to change. I do not care if you have fallen off a hundred times. I do not care what shape you are in, how old you are, or how far gone you feel. If you are willing to show up, I will meet you there.

TFL is not about perfection. It is about commitment. It is about community. It is about learning how to live again, with fitness in it, with structure, with meaning. And I am not just talking about lifting weights. I am talking about lifting your life.

So if you are reading this and you feel like you are meant for more, you are. If you are tired of starting over, stop quitting. Find your people. Find your place. And if you have not found it yet, you are always welcome at TFL.

Let’s build something that outlives us.
