Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruno Cunha.
Hi Bruno, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Brazilian musician, composer, producer, and mixing engineer. My father is an amateur musician, and when I was born, I was surrounded by music and instruments. He was my first teacher, and I started young, around three years old. During my childhood, I studied music and a few different instruments. I kept studying, playing, and discovering this huge musical world until I started working at an office when I was sixteen. That was when I discovered I was made to be a musician. I couldn’t stand working there for six months so I quit. I started working full time with music, first as a teacher.
In 2018 I left everything and everybody in Brazil to come to LA to study music. I met – and worked with – a lot of great professionals, and I had my first contact with producing and film scoring in 2019. Since then I can’t stop falling in love with composing music for films.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being away from my family is definitely the most challenging part of all. Of course, I had financial problems and social problems but nothing is more complicated than being away from your loved ones. Yes, I created strong connections with incredible people here in LA, but staying away from my father, my mother, my brother, my sister, and my nieces is the hardest. I hope everything gets sorted out soon so I can visit them.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a film composer, I am just starting out. I have composed a few shorts so far and had the opportunity to work with David Bawiec on a Netflix show. Every new note makes me more in love with film scoring.
Aside from that, I still work with a lot of artists as a producer, composer, and mixing engineer. Mainly in Brazil (remote). I have been blessed to work with great artists, including Latin Grammy-nominated and winners.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a normal kid. Loved to play video games, ride bikes, playing with friends. But I had this special connection with music and most of my time I was playing an instrument or studying.
