Check Out Ash Patel’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ash Patel.

Hi Ash, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career started in traditional finance, but I’ve always sat at the intersection of finance, systems, and problem-solving.

My background is in finance, but I’ve always been more interested in how things work than just the numbers themselves. Early in my career, working across the UK and US, I found myself naturally drawn to cleaning up messy systems, simplifying processes, and connecting dots that weren’t talking to each other. As my roles became more senior, especially during my time helping scale Indeed Flex through a period of hyper-growth, that instinct only intensified. We were growing fast—revenue, headcount, complexity—and it became clear that traditional finance processes simply couldn’t keep up without breaking people in the process.

I saw incredibly smart finance teams spending their energy reconciling spreadsheets, chasing data, and fixing issues after the fact. The work was important, but it wasn’t inspiring. And it didn’t have to be that way.

Living in Los Angeles played a role in sharpening that perspective. There’s a creative energy here that values speed, clarity, and building things that actually feel better to use. I started thinking: why does finance always lag behind design, product, and engineering when it comes to modern tools and experiences? Why couldn’t finance be just as intuitive, automated, and forward-thinking?

SimplifiedFi grew out of that question. I wanted to create something that helps finance teams spend less time buried in operational noise and more time thinking strategically. Not automation for automation’s sake, but thoughtful, human-centered systems that actually make people’s working lives better.

Today, SimplifiedFi works with CFOs and finance leaders who are ready to modernize how they operate—connecting their data, simplifying complexity, and layering in AI where it genuinely adds value. At its core, the company is a reflection of my own journey: blending finance discipline with creativity, systems thinking, and a belief that even the most traditionally rigid functions can be reimagined.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road and in hindsight, that’s been one of the most valuable parts of the journey.

One of the biggest challenges was unlearning the idea that “hard” automatically means “right.” In traditional finance environments, long hours, manual work, and constant firefighting are often worn as a badge of honor. When I started pushing for automation and cleaner systems, there was real resistance, sometimes cultural, sometimes emotional. Change is uncomfortable, especially in functions that are built around control and risk management.

Starting SimplifiedFi came with its own set of challenges. Translating real-world finance problems into scalable, productized solutions isn’t easy. Every company believes their situation is unique, so the early work involved a lot of listening, iteration, and saying no to ideas that weren’t grounded in actual day-to-day pain. Building trust was also critical; finance leaders don’t adopt new tools lightly, and rightfully so.

On a personal level, balancing ambition with patience has been an ongoing struggle. When you can see how much better things could be, it’s easy to want to move faster than the market is ready for. I’ve had to learn that meaningful change, especially in finance—takes time, credibility, and consistent execution.

There were moments of doubt, slow traction, and course correction, but each challenge helped sharpen the vision. Those experiences forced me to be clearer about what SimplifiedFi is not, just as much as what it is, and ultimately made the business stronger and more grounded.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At its core, my work is about helping finance teams operate with clarity instead of chaos.

Through SimplifiedFi, I work with CFOs, controllers, and accounting teams to modernize how finance actually runs day to day. That usually starts with fixing foundations—clean data, well-implemented systems, and processes that make sense—then layering in automation and AI to eliminate repetitive work, reduce errors, and create real-time visibility across the business. I specialize in connecting fragmented finance stacks and turning them into something cohesive, scalable, and easy to trust.

What I’m known for is being able to bridge two worlds that don’t always speak the same language: finance leadership and systems implementation. I’ve sat in the seat where accuracy, compliance, and deadlines matter, and I’ve also been hands-on building the systems that support them. That perspective allows me to design solutions that are practical, not theoretical—and actually get adopted.

What I’m most proud of is the impact on people, not just metrics. Seeing finance teams go from being constantly reactive to feeling in control of their work is incredibly rewarding. When leaders tell me they finally have time to think strategically again, or that their team is less burned out, that’s when I know the work is doing what it’s supposed to do.

What sets me apart is that SimplifiedFi isn’t built from the outside looking in—it’s built from lived experience. Everything we do is informed by years spent inside fast-growing companies, dealing with real constraints, real audits, real deadlines, and real pressure. We’re not chasing hype or shiny tools; we’re focused on building thoughtful, human-centered finance systems that actually make work better.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m always open to working with people who are curious, ambitious, and building something meaningful. The best collaborations usually start with a simple conversation.

Founders, CFOs, and operators can work with me through SimplifiedFi, where I partner closely with leadership teams to modernise finance, automate the boring stuff, and turn data into something that actually drives decisions. I also collaborate with accountants, fractional CFOs, and technologists who want to experiment with AI-first workflows and shape how finance functions evolve over the next decade.

Support doesn’t always have to be formal. Sometimes it’s an intro, a coffee, or a shared idea that turns into something bigger. If you’re building, investing, or rethinking how businesses should operate, I’m always happy to connect — especially with people who value execution as much as vision.
