Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Ponterio.
Hi Anthony, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started when I was younger and took a photography class in high school which had a dark room. At the same time, I had just started painting as well. I spent a lot of time in the darkroom experimenting as well as painting… I went on to shoot commercial work. Through the years of shooting, I would always experiment and fall in love with multiple-exposure photography. I then tried to figure out how to shoot long exposure. Multiple exposure photography. No tool existed. I went from Camera Store to, Camera Store Trying to find something that would allow me to do what I wanted to achieve. That journey led me to a machinist where I then spent six months working with him on an invention which I call Octaexposure. This tool allows me to shoot up to eight rotations of long exposure multiple exposure photography without the use of any Photoshop.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not sure if there is such a thing as a smooth road for an artist especially these days where we must juggle multiple acts to stay afloat.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for creating an invention called Octaexposure, which allows me to shoot up to eight images of long exposure. Multiple exposure photography without the use of Photoshop as well as incorporating my painting into some of them that I print to canvas.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Originality, trying to do something different that sets me apart.
