Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Collins.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was working as a pizza hut delivery driver for three years, I became way too comfortable at the job and just wanted to do something more meaningful in my life, that’s when I decided to go back to school and become a massage therapist. Work and going to school was definitely a different kind of stress, my mind was always on the go all the time. It was a pretty long eight months program but it got extended to ten months because of the pandemic. My graduation was on March 2020 and that’s when California shut down. All I needed was a week’s worth of intern and I’ll be done but I have to wait till things cleared and I was able to come back to school and finish in June 2020
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To me, the major struggle was the drive, lack of sleep and fast-paced learning. The drive towards my school will take an hour to get there and of course an hour back home. My lack of sleep came from working late and then doing some long homework and/or studying. Last but not least, I had to learn almost each technique or new modality within a week, and I am a bit of perfectionist so I did want to spend more time on the subject
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a massage therapist. I specialize in reflexology but pretty known for deep tissue and firm pressure. I am proud of that I have the knowledge and talent to heal others in need, not just physical but mental and psychological. What sets me apart from others I would have to say I’m passionate about continuing to learn new techniques and have the ability to listen to the body.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Mr. Apollo has definitely taught me a lot in school, and what I like about his teaching is that he didn’t sugar coat anything, just tell it like it is as a male therapist. It’s not all bells and whistle either you will face a lot of rejection or cancelation just because im a male.
Ms.Qiana showed me compassion and different techniques outside the normal massage ( lymphatic drainage ) not many people know about it but it definitely helps with any kind of surgery. I’m glad she took me under her wing of knowledge.
