Check Out Michael Wright’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Wright.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I used to work in Hollywood as a grip and electrician in film before transitioning to board game and tabletop game reviews. We started Unfiltered Gamer in 2016 and have created over 1,000 pieces of video content since then. We also have a brand new website which includes lists, reviews, blogs and more! It’s been an exciting journey working with people to help bring their games to life! We also have been in the process of crafting our own game Moonshell: A Mermaid Game a puzzle game that my wife Calli Wright has designed!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting off Unfiltered Gamer was an idea that my wife allowed me to pursue as she worked a full-time job. This allowed me to start from literally nothing and create the brand and everything involved. Over the first year, we lost money in the venture but over time, we’ve become somewhat successful whereas now the business functions all on its own. We’ve been focusing on saving for a house and after four years, we are now in a place where we can start looking and hopefully expanding. I had to transition from the film industry due to a back injury while snowboarding and this business has allowed me to work from home and manage my pain on my own time which has been dramatically helpful towards my health. I’ve been greatly blessed with this business and want to see it grow further with higher quality and a larger group of people helping me to create what it has become!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m very proud of what I helped create in film, being able to participate in movies and commercials was so much fun. Now working as a reviewer, I love having full creative control to create the content I want. I specialize in anything Adobe, After Effects, Premiere, Audition and a little photoshop. I’ve been learning a little bit of graphic design, filming and audio. Every day I learn more and more and it’s easier with the help of true professionals guiding my path. I suppose what sets us apart is the amount of content we create and for who we create it. I typically focus on self-published indie titles and my objective is to bring their dream to life. Giving smaller creators a platform to show off their games as well as a way to get their rules edited, games explained and an assortment of other services!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
In order to create, you must do. Start somewhere, anywhere. If you don’t start, you cant succeed. I began all of this with a phone and a laptop. Grow as your business grows, incorporate new styles, techniques and accessories as you are able to. Have a personality that engages people and try your best to be informative no matter what you’re trying to do.
