Today we’d like to introduce you to Magnolia Lafleur.
Magnolia was born in Sacramento, CA and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico and Omaha, NE from a Panamanian mother and Trinidadian father. Her early years were riddled with the arts, sports, writing, reading, travel, and a moralistic direction from two University professor parents; a combination that added to the philosophical narrative behind her art.
Magnolia attended California State University Long Beach on a Track and Field scholarship and majored in Journalism. She spent one year in London working at a film company acquiring an international business certificate.
Upon graduating Magnolia became a Professional Track and Field athlete for Trinidad and Tobago. While she trained on the top teams in the world like renowned Nike coach Bobby Kersee, she qualified for 2 Olympic Trials finals, and competed all over the world whilst working at film companies part-time & continuing to work as a writer. She publish her writing in multiple publications including Sublime Magazine, NOVICA National Geographic and Ash, The Oxford Poetry Society Magazine.
Having an affinity for film, psychology, philosophy, sociology, mythology and most of all storytelling, since she was a child, it was only natural for Magnolia to transition from running Professional to working full-time as a Fine Artist and launching her own meditative Paint & Sip company, Art On The Run.
Magnolias’ personal fine art are all story driven and based upon her writing. Her company, Art on The Run focused on traveling the world and throwing meditative paint classes/ parties that aid the painter in self-empowerment, reflection & awareness via art. Having the distinct and rare ability to read peoples personality based upon their paintings has led Magnolia to not only want to create her own art but to want to support the creative process in others.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My personal fine art is all story driven and based upon my poetry & is heavily inspired by film, philosophy, classical & jazz music. As a lover of film, I began painting my own writings only 5 years ago. I am a self-taught painter who wanted to find a medium with a likeness to film in which to display my stories.
My main medium is Acrylic on canvas expressed through a surrealistic & at times an abstract narrative style. My art work explores rebellious themes as it relates to the power of nature vs. technology, our spiritual & astronomical connection to the earth & our bodies, virtuous love, and human transformation and manifestation of our highest self via our callings.
The goal of my work is to support consciousness & self-awareness by supporting inalienable truth and to encourage the individualistic responsibility we all hold whilst on this plant to not embrace what is popular over what is right. My desire is to utilize my art as a form of storytelling that ignites the heart, soul & imagination and connects people to their true awakened self, the self that follows its dreams through hell or high water to a path of self -betterment as well towards the love and betterment of our neighbors.
Not only do I create paintings as story-boards of my short-story poetry, but on my website has my poetry laid out with a soundtrack and images that aid in creating a scrolling film environment
My art company, Art on The Run focuses on traveling the world and throwing meditative paint classes/ parties that aid the painter in self-empowerment, reflection & awareness via art. Having the distinct and rare ability to read peoples personality based upon their paintings has led me towards the direction of supporting the creative & reflective process in others.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Advice that I would give to others is, to follow your destiny with a strong sense of not only courage & discipline but of responsibility and love. Discover who you truly are and surround yourself with imaginative, disciplined, positive & healthy people who strive towards self-betterment & have a giving thankful heart. Discover the truth through not only and just electrical wires but through people & books young & old, through travel, questions & meditation. Have faith in your ability to create something that can make someone’s life happier, easier, and their journey more inspired. Not one person is exactly alike so embrace your creativity, specialty and kindness & do not bend towards cynicism, desperation, narcissism, nihilism or conformity in your journey towards finding & exposing your artistic voice. Create work with inherent value that reflects those corners of your heart, mind & soul that aids yours and everybody towards a manifestation of a higher, most benevolent creative self.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
